23 LTCC - Benefits Longwall Top Coal Caving has the following fundamental benefits: 1. Extraction of Coal Reserves of coal seams >4.5M and >85% Recovery, up to a 15m seam thickness. 2. The reliability, safety and flexibility of the longwall face at a working height 2.8m is substantially better than single pass thick seam. 3. Better ratio between longwall tonnes and Development tonnes = lower cost per tonne. 4. More even, more reliable production from longwall, substantial coal flow even when shearer is cutting gate-ends. 5. Reduced susceptibility to Spontaneous Combustion. 6.
