1 Terms of Reference Project: Design of REACH Brochure and 2012/2013 Activity Report Position: Graphic Design Consultant Location: Geneva or Remote + visits in Geneva Starting Date: at the latest 16th January 2014 Duration: The brochure should be completed by the 23 rd January; the Activity report by February 3 rd A: Description French NGO ACTED and its Swiss-registered partner IMPACT, both founders of the REACH initiative (see: developed in 2012 a brochure with the view to present the initiative in an efficient and appealing manner to external partners at global and country levels. The purpose of the brochure is to convey visually and textually key information about the scope and contents of the REACH initiative. The brochure is not limited to a specific public, though its main target audience are stakeholders (including both governmental and non-governmental aid actors and donors) within the international humanitarian and development communities. Since its inception in 2012, the REACH initiative has rapidly grown both in terms of geographical coverage and in the range of activities carried out. A new version of the REACH brochure will contribute to external communication efforts on the significant developments within the initiative. For this reason the initial version of the REACH brochure needs to be further developed, and more specifically, ACTED and IMPACT are seeking professional support for the (re)design of the brochure. In addition to the brochure, ACTED and IMPACT are in the process of developing a REACH Activity report for 2012 and The report s layout as well as its target audience will be similar to that of the brochure. Target audience Not limited to a specific public, though its main target audience are stakeholders (including both governmental and non-governmental aid actors and donors) within the international humanitarian and development communities. 1

2 B: Considerations - The newly designed REACH brochure and Activity report will be developed in both English and French, using the same graphic template. - The initial REACH brochure was developed using Adobe InDesign CS6 for PC. The Graphic Design Consultant should aim to using the same or compatible desktop publishing software for both the new brochure and the Activity report. - The initial REACH brochure is printed in A4 format (A3 with one fold) but the consultant could consider reducing its size to a more attractive format for readers. The REACH activity report is envisaged to be in A4 (A3 with one fold), although suggestions are welcome for a different size. - Text, maps, pictures and graphics should be presented in a highly reader-friendly manner. - All key components listed below should be clearly and logically reflected in the brochure. - Fonts and colours should be consistent with the upbeat tone of the brochure. - It is already foreseen that the graphic concept adopted for the new version of the brochure and Activity report will also inform and be possibly applied in additional/further design work on a range of external communication materials/products related to the REACH initiative, including both printed and electronic materials. - The Graphic Design Consultant should provide the native designed documents compatible under Adobe InDesign CS6 for PC, as well as attach all fonts (for PC). Key components of the REACH brochure: Number of pages (approximately): 12 pages (inside) + 4 cover pages While these will be reviewed and agreed upon the start of the consultancy, the main components of the existing REACH brochure are: - Front page - Introductory background on the history of the creation of REACH - REACH strategic framework (Vision, Mission Statement, Principles, Pillars, Objectives) - REACH Toolbox (developed by REACH and applied field interventions) - REACH online presence (Website; Resource Centre; Map Portal) - REACH global engagement (inter-agency standing committee; global clusters; etc.) - REACH in the field (overview of operations at country and regional levels) - Contact information Key components of the REACH 2012 /2013 Activity Report: Number of pages (approximately): 28 pages (inside) + 4 cover pages While these will be reviewed and agreed upon the start of the consultancy, the main components of the envisaged REACH 2012 / 2013 Activity Report are: - Part 1: Overview o Introductory background on the history of the creation of REACH (1p) o Vision, Mission Statement, Values (1p) o Pillars (1p) o REACH s toolbox (1p) o Global Engagement (1p) 2
