2 Case Study 2: Jining the Bank fr Substantive Leavers. At STHK we identified that we ften received external bank applicatins frm individuals wh had previusly wrked substantively in ur Trust. In rder t remve the need fr applicatins, interviews and duplicated pre-emplyment checks, we wanted t give leavers the pprtunity t either jin the bank befre they leave r simply remain n the bank if already registered. Thrugh careful review f the leaving prcess we identified that the best pint t ffer this ptin was at cmpletin f the Trust terminatin frm. This is cmpleted by line managers wh then have the pprtunity t discuss jining the bank with the member f staff and specify this accrdingly n the terminatin frm, see belw: This is then submitted t and prcessed by ur Emplyment Services Team. TIP: If substantive and bank assignments are aggregated n ESR, nly terminating the substantive assignment will nt generate a P45. Yu may need t implement a new prcess whereby bth substantive and bank assignments are terminated and then a cmpletely new bank assignment is set up fr the individual. Liaise with yur Payrll Team t discuss hw the end-t-end prcess can be mst effectively intrduced. 16

4 Case Study 3: External Bank Recruitment Prcess Review. It s imprtant that nce bank applicatins have been submitted they are prcessed as quickly as pssible. It s likely that yurs isn t the nly jb that candidates have applied fr dn t be the last emplyer t respnd! Here s hw we have sped up this prcess at STHK Applicatin submissin Shrtlisting Interviewing Offer Inductin Emplyee Online accunt Our bank vacancies are published nline each mnth with the clsing date always the last day f the mnth. This ensures candidates are nt frced t wait fr lng perids f time befre they are respnded t. Candidates are als mre likely t apply there and then if the vacancy is due t clse sn, rather than deciding t cme back t the applicatin at a later date which desn t guarantee cmpletin. In rder t tackle the struggle t recruit bank registered nurses, this vacancy is live n a cntinuus basis t ensure thse interested in applying never miss ut! We ften fund that shrtlisting and interviewing tk a lng time t cmplete due t the unavailability f clinical staff t supprt with this. We identified that smetimes newly recruited bank staff culd wait anything up t 3 mnths in rder t receive a place n the Trust inductin. T decrease the wait time we are lking int the pssibility f having reserved places fr bank staff n the Trust Inductin, the reasn being that they cannt start wrk until they have attended this whereas substantive staff can. Anther issue identified during this review was that bank staff ften had t cntact the Temprary Staffing team in rder t receive their Emplyee Online user accunt. We nw set up a user accunt fr bank staff at the pint where they are added nt the Healthrster system as a persn. We als send them details f hw t navigate the system in the welcme pack they receive frm ur Bank Recruitment team. This ensures they can lg n straight away and start t bk shifts. 18

5 Example 3: Bank Recruitment via Scial Media. At STHK we have launched bank recruitment campaigns acrss a number f different platfrms t ensure ur vacancies reach as many peple as pssible. Here s a little mre infrmatin n hw we went abut this Facebk: Whilst we als have a clsed Staffing Slutins Facebk grup implemented t imprve bank staff engagement and retentin, we established that bank vacancies wuld be best advertised via ur Trust Recruitment Facebk Page as this is an pen page and can be fllwed by anyne. Facebk will allw yu t see hw many peple yur pst has reached and yu can als pay t bst yur psts in rder t push yur psts nt the screens f members in a certain demgraphic which yu are able t specify. 19

6 Twitter: We are currently wrking with ur Cmmunicatins Team t replicate the Facebk Recruitment page int a Twitter frmat. In the meantime, we regularly pst bank vacancies via the Trust Twitter page. 20

7 Linked In: Given that Linked In is a prfessinally based scial media platfrm which already has a recruitment fcus, we felt that psting ur bank vacancies via the Trust Linked In site was the mst suitable ptin. 21

9 Tips and Tricks fr Recruiting via Scial Media: Always ensure the infrmatin yu re psting is prfessinal and apprpriate t be shared nline. Ensure yu have read and are cnfident in abiding by yur Trust s Scial Media plicy. Try t make yur cntent as visual as pssible by uplading phts and vides whenever pssible. Yu can als use websites such as t create scial media graphics. Include links t yur nline vacancies in yur psts s that fllwers can reach access them at the click f a buttn. If yu are using a recruitment specific scial media accunt, ask yur Cmmunicatins team t share yur psts n Trust wide scial media t ensure the cntent reaches as many peple as pssible. Dn t pst reccurring cntent. Make sure yu refresh yur psts and use new images and graphics whenever pssible. Try t pst ther cntent as well as jb vacancies (see examples n next page). Anything that sells yur Trust is relevant! Fllw the ther scial media accunts linked t yur Trust. Psitive cntent they pst can be shared n yur wn accunt t yur advantage. Regular cmmunicatin is key t building an nline bank cmmunity and it s als vital that scial media sites are mnitred cntinuusly with a member f the team n hand t reply t cmments and messages prmptly and efficiently. TIP: At STHK we identified certain clinical areas which have a lw bank fill rate. We have created department prfiles t prvide bank staff with mre infrmatin n these wards and what bank staff can expect frm shifts within these services. After these were psted n scial media, it was lvely t see staff wh have wrked n these wards cmment with psitive messages t encurage thers t d the same! 30
