Remuneratin: $55,000 Pr rata + 9% superannuatin BACKGROUND The Castlemaine State Festival was established in 1974 thrugh the visin f Berek Segan AM OBE wh with Gian Carl Mentti prpsed Castlemaine as the preferred place fr the third arm f the Splet Festival. Mdelled n Eurpe's famus small-twn classical music festivals, the Festival was a unique event in its time, pening up the reginal turing circuit fr rganisatins such as the Melburne Symphny Orchestra. Under the directin f Berek Segan and Phee Bradway it develped as a multi-artfrm Festival, cmmitted t artistic excellence in a reginal setting and specifically aimed at creating a cntext fr valuing the arts in Victria. Over the past thirty-six years an extrardinary range f Victrian, Australian and internatinal artists have perfrmed at the Festival and festival prgramming clearly reflects changes in bth the festival and reginal cntext. This lng-standing reputatin as Victria s premier reginal arts Festival is held largely because: The Festival pre-dates any ther reginal arts festival in Victria and ver its lng histry has ffered much t the arts in reginal Victria thrugh exceptinal prgramming f the very best f reginal, natinal and internatinal perfrming and visual arts. The Festival is held in autumn, a particularly beautiful seasn in the regin, and has becme synnymus with the intimacy, relaxed sphisticatin, and pen creative spirit which s quintessentially define the twn and the Gldfields regin. Castlemaine is just 120km nrth-west f Melburne and 110 km frm the Melburne Internatinal Airprt. Its prximity makes it accessible fr bth artists and audiences. Page 1

2 Castlemaine is artistically and culturally rich, evidenced by the variety f private studis and galleries and the ppulatin f apprximately 400 practising artists living in the regin. The clse prximity between Castlemaine s public buildings, cultural venues, rnamental parks, natural envirns and industry prvides a unique and attractive festival setting. The Festival is valued by the peple f the regin and is seen as a majr cntributr in cnnecting cmmunity and develping enterprise within the regin. Participatin in the artistic and cultural prgram invlves almst every rganisatin in the cmmunity, including the lcal aged care facility, factry wrkers, street rd enthusiasts, sprts peple, all lcal secndary and primary schls, gardeners, restaurants, heritage specialists, and the many perfrming artists, visual artists and artisans, writers, filmmakers, designers, playwrights and ther creative individuals and rganisatins that live and wrk in the district. Each sectr in their wn way brings their interests t inter-sect with the Festival, treading the pathway t cnnectin, reflectin and innvatin. The Festival is nw very much part f the regin s creative eclgy, drawing n a critical mass that feeds the purpse, directin and passin f the Festival. As the Festival plans fr this next phase f its life, as ne f the mst distinctive and prgressive festivals in Australia, it des s with knwledge and cnfidence. It has utstanding audience satisfactin levels, lyal return visitatin, expanding cmmunity and business partnerships, and a highly engaged and inspired lcal and visiting audience. The Festival has experienced exceptinal market grwth in the last triennial. Frm the 2007 t 2011 Festivals, incme has increased frm $760,000 t $960,000. Frm 2009 t 2011 Festivals, tickets purchased have increased by 4,500 individual sales with 82% f bx ffice capacity being reached. Additinally, attendances at free events are in excess f 30,000 patrns. The 19th biennial Castlemaine State Festival will be held frm 15 t 24 March 2013 and will cntinue t present utstanding reginal Victrian, Australian and internatinal wrk. The Castlemaine State Festival has tw key business units: Business Operatins: respnsible fr develping and delivering strategies t manage administratin, finance, marketing and business develpment. Business develpment includes incme generatin thrugh spnsrship, gvernment and philanthrpic relatinships and driving ticket sales. Paid staff include: Marketing Crdinatr Patrns and Dnr Crdinatr Publicist Bkkeeper Vlunteer Staff include: Administratin ver the 2 year planning cycle Technical, artistic, marketing and financial areas Artistic Operatins: respnsible fr develping and delivering prgramming, lgistics and peratins f all these prgrams, and liaisn with all relevant stakehlders. 3 THE AIM OF THE POSITION T imprve the efficiency f the administratin, increase avenues and the capacity fr revenue generatin, and maximise the prmtin f the Festival t best facilitate its delivery. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION T plan fr and deliver the Business Operatins strategies and activities. T manage cmprehensive budgets fr Business Operatins activities. T maintain and develp relatinships with existing and new spnsrs, private philanthrpists, federal, state and lcal gvernments. T manage and direct the Business Operatins vlunteers and cntractrs t supprt the implementatin f the 2013 strategies T develp a cntinued Business Operatins strategy fr the 2015 event. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The Business Operatins Manager wrks clsely with the Festival Directr t deliver Business Operatins and is respnsible and accuntable fr the fllwing perfrmance areas: 1. The Strategy: t deliver the Business Operatins strategies related t administratin, finance, marketing and business develpment in cnsultatin with the Festival Directr Create and implement strategies, systems and timelines fr: Crprate spnsrship and private philanthrpy incme supprt Administratin management and systems Budget management Vlunteer staff management Marketing, turism and cmmunicatins Bx ffice management and incme In cnjunctin with the Marketing Crdinatr and Patrns and Dnrs Crdinatr identify and develp pprtunities t maximise spnsr and stakehlder recgnitin and invlvement with the Festival. Regularly review all arrangements with rganisatins and cntractrs t ensure that such arrangements accrue maximum benefits t the Festival. 2. The Budget: t develp, manage and reprt n the Business Operatins Budget t the Festival Directr delivering the strategies f Business Operatins within set incme and expenditure targets In cnsultatin with the Festival Directr, implement, manage and mnitr n a micr level all budget incme and expenditure fr Business Operatins Achieve targets set fr incme and expenditure. 3. The Staff: with the Festival Directr, recruit, supervise and manage the Business Operatins Vlunteer Staff t ensure that Business Operatins strategies and budgets are able t be fully delivered. With the Festival Directr recruit Vlunteer Staff in the Business Operatins dmain. T supervise, delegate and manage the Vlunteer Staff t ensure that the Strategy and the Budget are fully delivered. Seek and manage external suppliers t effectively implement the Strategy and the Budget Prvide reprts and attend staff and bard meetings where required Page 3

Other Duties Prvide written reprts n the planning and implementatin f the key perfrmance areas as defined abve n a needs basis; including a reprt at the cmpletin f the cntracted perid f emplyment n the effectiveness f the Strategy, the Budget and the Staff and the utcmes and future recmmendatin f these. Write, prepare and manage identified grant, trust, spnsrship applicatins and acquittals and ther relevant applicatins. Assist in the preparatin f the 2013 Official Prgram and Marketing Materials as required. Assist in the management f spnsrship, artistic and cmmercial advertising fr the 2013 Official Prgram and ther marketing materials as required. Liaise with, advise and supprt Artistic Operatins and thers invlved in Business Operatins. REPORTING This psitin reprts directly t the Festival Directr and wrks clsely with the Artistic Operatins Manager. WORK CONDITIONS This psitin is part time and based in Castlemaine, Victria. Nrmal ffice hurs f wrk will be 9am 5pm with a daily lunch break f ne (1) hur. There will be wrk utside f business hurs and utside f Castlemaine f which n additinal payment is granted unless negtiated with the Festival Directr. Hurs f wrk will include weekend and ncall respnse directly leading up t and during the ten days f the Festival. ANNUAL AND SICK LEAVE Subject t the terms and cnditins f the emplyment cntract, the Emplyee will be entitled t hliday leave accrued prprtinally at the rate f 4 weeks annual leave fr every 52 weeks wrked. N leave lading will be paid. SELECTION CRITERIA Demnstrated experience and skills in the identified Jb Respnsibilities; including: Essential 1. Generating incme thrugh business and financial partnerships 2. Develping highly prfessinal administrative systems, efficient rganizatinal prcedures and business practice 3.
