Critical to x Requirements Index Introduction Different CTx requirements Critical to quality (CTQ) Critical to cost (CTC) Critical to process (CTP) Critical to safety (CTS) Critical to delivery (CTD) Importance of aligning projects with CTx requirements 3 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to x (CTx) Requirements Introduction The variable x in the concept of CTx represents the essential aspect or aspects of impact on the customers in a product or service. Critical to requirements are regarded as the needs, wants, or expectations of the customers that are expressed either in quantifiable or non-quantifiable terms. CTxs can be similar across the groups of CTQs, CTCs, CTSs, CTPs, or CTDs but are explicitly stated by the customers for specific reasons. CTxs enable an organization to produce the products or services as required by the customers. 4 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to Quality (CTQ) Critical to x (CTx) Requirements CTQs refer to those attributes/qualities in a product or a process that are essential requirements most desired by the customers. CTQs can include physical measurements such as weight, height, length, depth, etc. They represent the requirements of quality on a broad level and hence lack depth of specificity. CTQs need to be interpreted quantitatively based on the data received from the voice of the customer in order to enable the organization to take specific actions to meet the customer requirements. CTQ outputs are defined after the initiation of the project and collection of the voice of the customer data. 5 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to Cost (CTC) Critical to x (CTx) Requirements CTCs refer to the factors that determine the impact of cost on the customers. They are similar to CTQs, but the customers differentiate them in order to make clear their specific requirements. For instance, the weight of a product can be considered as a CTC, though it is strictly a CTQ. For example, if the customer specifies that the product should weigh between 20 and 25 pounds, it mean that any weight beyond and below the limits is considered to impact her requirements adversely. 6 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to Process (CTP) Critical to x (CTx) Requirements CTPs are variables that are regarded as essential inputs for the process. In a process, the CTPs are critical x s in the equation y=f(x). To find out the constant y, and to understand and measure the CTPs, the precise settings or levels of the CTPs have to be determined. 7 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to Safety (CTS) Critical to x (CTx) Requirements CTSs are the requirements, explicitly stated by the customers, related to the safety of the product or process. CTSs are similar to CTCs and CTQs, but are stated by the customers explicitly as requirements related to product or process safety. 8 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to Delivery (CTD) Critical to x (CTx) Requirements CTDs are the requirements, explicitly stated by the customers, related to the delivery of the product or service. CTDs are stated by the customers in order to prevent delayed delivery or early delivery of the product resulting in delays excessive inventory. CTDs are converted into critical requirements of the customers by quantifying the areas of impact of the CTDs. 9 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.

Critical to x (CTx) Requirements Importance of aligning projects with CTx requirements The projects have to be aligned with the CTx requirements in order to deliver the products and services that conform to the needs and expectations of the customers. The projects aligned with the CTx requirements are regarded as successful projects since they will have the most favorable impact on the customers and the business alike. The projects aligned with the CTx requirements ensure: Appropriate quality of the products and services as desired by the customers Reasonable prices for the products and services On time delivery of the products and services 10 Powered by Poet Solvers Limited.
