32 In philanthropic terms Occurs when a product or service is designed for a new set of donors/grantmakers/grantee whose needs aren t being met or being ignored

33 In strategic terms Who are your stakeholders? Are they changing? How do you communicate/demonstrate your Value Added Proposition (VAP) to them? How do they respond? How do you measure it?

34 From a Grantmaker s Perspective: Uniquely positioned to sense disruption May see early indicators of disruption before others have a chance Use your networks (and expand them) to share reports you receive from grantees conversations with other grantmakers

40 From a Grantmaker s Perspective: Question for grantmakers: When disruption occurs, what can you do to ensure it has a beneficial impact on grantees and the communities you serve?

41 We have to be aware of the time they spend online enjoying such things as Farmville, of which there are 99 million players. That s more than the population of France!

56 If you want more data on the changing nature of philanthropy See the Blackbaud study here:

57 Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook By Gary Vaynerchuk It took thirty-eight years before 50 million people gained access to radios. It took television thirteen years to earn an audience that size. It took Instagram a year and a half. On Facebook, the definition of great content is not the content that makes the most sales, but the content that people most want to share with others. If you re in business, first and foremost, you have to be nice. Show your customers that you care. Use every customer point of contact to weave stories about who you are and what your brand stands for. It took Flickr two years to reach the milestone of 100 million uploaded pictures; it took Instagram eight months. Creating content that allows us to share our experiences, thoughts, and ideas in real time is becoming an intrinsic part of life in the twenty-first century. The skill sets it takes to be a successful entrepreneur, a successful marketer, or a relevant celebrity is a different skill set than you needed ten years ago, even though that was the skill set that mattered for decades.
