1 Jb Descriptin Title f the pst: Student Advisr: Infrmatin, Advice and Guidance (Part-time appintment) Department: Student Services Reprting t: Student Services Manager The Appintment: Student Services at Harper Adams includes management f residential accmmdatin ncampus, versight f apprved ff-campus accmmdatin, a welfare and advice functin and general supprt fr students t maximise their academic and persnal develpment whilst at University. The pst-hlder will be respnsible fr prviding a frntline infrmatin, advice and guidance service t students frm the Faccenda Welcme Hub, facilitating easy access t and imparting knwledge f university services, plicies and prcedures as well as prmting participatin in new academic and scial initiatives and activities. The Rle: The main duties and respnsibilities f the rle include: T be an initial pint f cntact fr student enquiries and t prvide frntline infrmatin, advice and guidance n a brad range f tpics, and referral t mre specialist supprt where necessary, as fllws: Wellbeing services and surces f self-help Prmtin f surces f financial supprt and guidance n cmpletin f applicatins Accmmdatin n and ff campus Prmtin f and supprt fr student engagement pprtunities and activities Placement and careers infrmatin Student changes f circumstances including; curse changes (transfer, pstpnement and withdrawal), address, next f kin, etc. Guidance n pstpnement, withdrawal and financial liabilities Guidance n University prcedures and plicies General guidance n mitigating circumstances Page 1 f 5

2 Prvide supprt and advice t students with disabilities and prvide assistance with cmpletin f applicatins Guidance n the student cmplaints prcedure and the arrangements by which academic appeals may be ldged Assist with access t timetabling infrmatin General enquiries and signpsting T be familiar with key plicies and prcedures and wrk with clleagues t crdinate the maintenance f key infrmatin n the University s webpages r similar T advise students n the apprved arrangements by which cmplaints shuld be prgressed, and supprt them in ding s, where apprpriate T ensure that apprpriate escalatins, referrals and cntacts are made with sensitivity, discretin and efficiency T gather student feedback and be a frntrunner fr new prjects and initiatives that prmte a psitive student experience, including clse wrking with relevant Students Unin staff and the Student Welfare Officer T actively engage with a range f scial media platfrms t prmte events, campaigns and key infrmatin T mnitr and administer tasks and referrals frm departmental inbxes Wrking clsely with ther clleagues in a range f departments alng with external stakehlders, rganise and crdinate a range f student advice clinics, pp up events and infrmatin stands in the Faccenda Centre Maintain a safe, welcming and respectful envirnment within the Faccenda Centre fyer / grup study rms T facilitate appintments with clleagues in varius departments and supprt student access t university sprts and study facilities Maintain screens in the Faccenda Centre, s that infrmatin displayed is time sensitive and apprpriate t a student audience Issue f Student ID cards and welcme infrmatin fr all student grups Prvide assistance in cntacting students and cmmunicating event arrangements T undertake relevant training such as Safeguarding, First Aid and Fire Marshall training and t take an active rle in assciated respnsibilities Such ther duties as the Student Services Manager r Directr f Academic Services may require frm time t time. This is a descriptin f the pst as it is presently cnstituted. The University reserves the right t peridically examine an emplyee's jb descriptin, its lcatin within the rganisatin and t up-date r amend it t ensure that it is related t the duties then being perfrmed, r t incrprate new duties, as required. Cnditins f Service The natinal recmmendatins which have arisen frm the negtiatins between UCEA and the unins recgnised at natinal level, the Jint Negtiating Cmmittee fr Higher Educatin Staff (JNCHES), directly affect the terms and cnditins insfar as they have been adpted by the Bard f Gvernrs. Salary The cmmencing salary will be within the range 20,624-22,494 per annum (pr-rata). The pint f entry will be dependent upn relevant qualificatins and experience. Salaries are paid mnthly, in arrears, by credit transfer. Page 3 f 5

4 Hurs f Wrk Cntract Term Hlidays Sick Leave Pensin Criminal Cnvictins The rutine wrking week is 25 hurs (initially wrking 9.30 a.m. until 3.00 p.m.) ver Mnday t Friday inclusive, 34 weeks f the year, predminantly term time. With a pst f this nature the pst-hlder will be required t wrk flexibly t suit the needs f the department and may be required t wrk ccasinal evenings and weekends as required and with apprpriate ntice. Time ff in lieu will be allwed fr hurs wrked in excess f 25 per week. Planned leave and persnal cmmitments must be agreed in advance by the Student Services Manager t ensure adequate cver can be arranged. This appintment may be terminated by either party giving tw mnths ntice The annual hliday entitlement is 22 wrking days, plus 3 University clsure days and Bank Hlidays (pr-rata). The hliday year runs frm 1 April t 31 March and in the hliday year in which the emplyment cmmences r terminates the hliday entitlement will accrue n a prrata basis fr each cmplete week f service. The timing f hlidays is subject t the agreement f the Line Manager. During perids f certified sickness the pst-hlder will be eligible t receive sick pay in accrdance with the University Sick Pay Plicy. The payment f sick pay is subject t cmpliance with the University rules fr the ntificatin and verificatin f sickness absence, details f which will be prvided t the successful applicant upn cmmencement f emplyment. The pst-hlder will be entitled t jin the Lcal Gvernment Pensin Scheme (LGPS), subject t its terms and cnditins. Full details f the Scheme will be prvided t the successful applicant upn cmmencement f emplyment. The pst invlves substantial pprtunity fr access t children and yung persns under the age f 18. Fr this reasn the University is entitled t take int accunt any criminal cnvictins, cautins r impending case(s) that it cnsiders t be relevant t the pst. The pst is exempt frm the prvisins f the Rehabilitatin f Offenders Act This means that applicants are nt entitled t withhld infrmatin abut cnvictins which fr ther purpses wuld be cnsidered spent under the prvisins f the Act. Applicants must therefre cmplete the part f the applicatin frm declaring any criminal cnvictins and cautins frm any curt r plice authrity. It will be necessary fr yu t btain a Disclsure & Barring Service Check (frmally knwn as Criminal Recrds Bureau CRB) t cnfirm that yu d nt have any criminal cnvictins relevant t the pst and that yu are nt banned frm wrking with children. Exclusivity f Service Yu are required t devte yur full-time attentin and abilities t yur duties during wrking hurs and t act in the best interests f the University at all times. Accrdingly, yu must nt, withut written cnsent f the University, undertake emplyment r engagement including external cnsultancy, which might interfere with the perfrmance f yur duties r cnflict with the interests f the University.
