6 Recruit When When is it a good time to talk Civitan? Anytime you meet someone new. When asked what you do in your spare time. Find a way to bring Civitan it up in a conversation. Wear your pin people will ask what is it. Set-up recruitment drive & membership meetings.

7 Recruit Where When can I talk about Civitan? Look k for opportunities to speak to group While involved in projects and activities At work When shopping At conventions/meetings

10 Roll Play Exercise How Develop your elevator speech About one minute in length. Three sentences. Capture what is in it for them. Why do we exist. What do we do. Why our club is great

11 Recognize New Member Initiate Sponsor

12 Recognize New Member Send Congratulatory Letter from the President Mail or same day or next day. Tell him/her about initiation ceremonies at the next meeting. Take a picture of him/her for next p newsletter & to put on club s FB page.

13 Recognize Initiate Properly initiate the new member. By the district i t governor or district i t officer. Present initiate packet/folder and a pin. Fill out membership certificate. t Include updated roster with his/her name. Include copy of club s budget. Have name badge prepared. Take pictures for newsletter and FB page.

14 Recognize Sponsor Send thank you note to the sponsor. Mail or same day or next day. Sponsor stands with new member during initiation ceremonies. Sponsor present his/her new member with a lapel pin.

15 Recognize Sponsor Take advantage of Sponsorship Awards. Publicly l recognize and thank. Promote current incentives. Brag about sponsor if it is his/her first sponsor (First Pin). Lifetime Sponsorship Awards Program. Promote MST.

16 Retain Orientation Involve Mentor

17 Retain Orientation Set-up orientation session within first month: Review i member expectations. ti Review annual calendar of events. Use CI s Orientation PowerPoint. Review Civitan Basic booklet/dvd

18 Retain Involve Involve new member(s) as quickly as possible: Find d out their areas of interests. t Make sure they have the opportunity to participate in projects. Use buddy system for meeting/projects. Take advantage of the VIP program.

19 Retain Mentor Mentor new members into leadership positions: Give them the opportunity to use their skills. Begin with co-chairs of projects. Assign g experienced member to the new member. Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, etc.

20 Review Recruit, Recognize, Retain Putting the Three R s to work for your club: Recruit: Challenge your members to bring people they know to the meetings. Lead by Example Sponsor a new member(s)! Recognize: Proper/timely initiation of new members. Thank/recognize sponsors! Retain: Teach new members how and why Civitan membership is worthy of their time.

21 Questions & Comments My Challenge to YOU-Civitan! By the end of September! First: t TALK to three people you know about your club this next week! Second: Invite them to your club s next event! (Meeting-Social-Banquet) Close the deal: Ask them to join your club! Results: 50+ New Members in September!
