You know how powerful a personal invitation from a friend can be. Now is the time to reach out to others and help them have a life-changing experience. How? It s simple. Here are some pointers to help you get started: #SLS18 the real-to-life tools you need to bring Christ to others. What is your best memory from a past FOCUS conference? What did your friends/family say about it? How would you describe those experiences to someone else? Think about your story! Who did you wish could have been there with you at a FOCUS conference? Whom do you know who needs this kind of life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ and His Church? Whom should you invite to a conference? (make a list) friends family fellow parishioners classmates neighbors These are the people to pray for and personally invite to SLS18 those family members, friends and the people in your home parish, your classes or your dorm who are searching for meaning and purpose in their lives. Since SLS18 is important enough for you to invest your time and money to attend, why should it be different for them? Only you can communicate how important their attendance is and how much you want to share this experience with them. guess what? The primary factor for most students in deciding to come to a FOCUS conference is not the speakers, entertainment or program: It s who else is going. They care more about the potential experience they could have and the memories they could make with you than anything in the conference lineup. Your invitation is invaluable! 2

4 what to do: 1. The Personal Invitation: Get coffee with them and share why you think going would be a good thing. Speak into their lives. Share the vision. Tell them your story (include your best memory from a past conference or with FOCUS and why you are going back.) Show links to the conference website, Facebook group and YouTube videos. Use promo materials to create buzz and generate momentum leading up to SLS18. Let them know who else is going. That is the most influential part to their decision to go! 2. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & Snapchat Share the event on your newsfeed, like, tag friends, comment and use #SLS18 to help generate buzz. Don t underestimate the power of social media. Here are some common questions/excuses you might hear and answers you can give: Q. How can I afford to go? Share with them some ideas: Signing up early at $599 is about the cost of a new iphone. Going out 1 2 times less each week ($25) can save a considerable amount. FOCUS has awesome fundraising packets that can help them raise the money to attend. They can ask for the gift of attending conference for Christmas. There are scholarships available (they need to apply online for these). Q. How long is SLS18? SLS18 will last from Tuesday, Jan. 2 Saturday, Jan. 6. Q. How will I get there? FOCUS campuses often rent buses, so they can try contacting the closest team to see if they can ride with them (find a list of FOCUS campuses at focusoncampus.org). If they aren t renting a bus, many FOCUS campuses will get group tickets for plane flights and negotiate discounts. Q. What if I don t know anyone going? Tell them that you will be there and you are inviting them to go with you. Introduce them to other individuals who are going; connect them with a FOCUS team nearby. Remind them that SLS18 is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. 3
