Welcome to the Affiliation Year! The Regional Board of Directors has been hard at work on Polar Points, a new spirit point initiative. Polar Points serves to accomplish a number of goals to make our region more successful: recognizing our dedicated member schools, increasing affiliation retention, encouraging engagement, and building better relationships from institution to institution, and between institutions and the RBD. Use this Polar Points guide to understand the intentionality behind this system, figure out point values, and see all of the great opportunities GLACURH and NACURH provide for getting involved. We are constantly looking for feedback, especially in Polar Point s inaugural year! If you feel like there s anything we re missing, or if you have any suggestions for how to improve, please don t hesitate to reach out and let us know. Go forth and earn those Polar Points! We can t wait to see all that you all can accomplish this year. Peace, love, polar bears, Cassie Govert, Regional Director, on behalf of the GLACURH RBD gl_director@nacurh.org GLACURH Great Lakes Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls

3 The INTRODUCTION What is Polar Points? Polar Points is GLACURH s first incentive point system created to recognize member schools and increase engagement in regional initiatives. Each member school affiliated with NACURH in the Great Lakes region is eligible and encouraged to compete in Polar Points. The winning member school will be congratulated at regional recognition at the NACURH Annual Conference! Why Polar Points? Polar Points is an idea passed down from the Regional Board of Directors. The RBD wanted to carry the idea into fruition by evaluating incentive point systems across other regions in NACURH, deciding on desired outcomes, and developing a way to execute the system effectively. Polar Points is designed to reward member schools for their participation and excitement for the region and NACURH. Potential points are including, but not limited to, the following categories: Affiliation Bidding Attending conferences Participating on a regional or NACURH-level taskforce Showing spirit at conferences Engaging with GLACURH social media Attending Diamond Chats, President s Roundtables, RBD office hours, & more!
