6 Annual Conference & Trade Show EXPO Brief History HDI s EXPO started back in 1955 and continues to be held annually the weekend after Labor Day. It started with only about 25 manufacturer booths. Boy, how times have changed. In 1977, right after the Yakima Convention Center was built; we were the first event to be held there. After three remodels and expansions, we utilized nearly every inch of the Convention Centers over 60,000 square feet for 38 years. Our attendance rate has also rose as we serve customers from ten states and two provinces in Canada coming for the great buys and extended dating as well as the food and hospitality. In 2015 we outgrew the Convention Center and moved our Trade Show to the Yakima SUNDOME at State Fair Park. The facility provides us with over 80,000 square feet for exhibitor space. We now feature booth space for over 400 manufacturers with additional outdoor displays. The grounds of the State Fair Park are available along with several other buildings for special events. Our Saturday night Best Bet Buys event is held in the Modern Living Building with seating for over 700 guests. Our Preview Reception and Buffet featuring the New Item Showcase and in-booth ordering will be Saturday night in the Sundome. A recent survey of attendees ranked events, food and hospitality at 98% satisfaction. Our show continues to grow and we can t wait to see where it will take us next.
