2 Aims & Outcomes: Aims: To understand the research considerations which need to be made in order to support the brief. To understand how research will support the development of your chosen theme. To carry out supportive research in order to support the development of your chosen theme. Outcomes: You will have a clear understanding of the different research you need to carry out in order to support the development of your chosen design theme. You will begin to use your understanding to find supportive materials to help you to devise and develop high quality and skilful design process and outcomes. Criteria: Unit 5, 6, & 7: 1.2 Apply research activities to support solutions to a design problem.

3 Expectations: Now is the time for you to practice your independence. You need to independently carry out the following: Analyse the brief Discuss audience considerations Carry out a broad range of theme choice research and investigation Explore findings in the form of experimentation Keep a journal of reflection, evaluation and planning

4 What do you need to research? 1. What is branding and how is it used within promotion? 2. What are the elements of a brand and how are they used in brand identity? 3. What are 2D, 3D, & time based design products, and how are they used in promotion? 4. You need a examples of a wide range of promotional materials used in the advertising of your chosen specialist theme 5. You need to explore current market and branding campaigns relevant to your chosen theme 6. You need examples of the visual elements and principles used in branding & packaging 7. You need examples of the visual communication used in branding & packaging 8. You need to explore the materials, processes and technical skills used to create 2D, 3D, & time-based promotional materials 9. What is a concept board and how should you create one? How is a concept board used? Task: using your own and the list above begin your supportive research. Annotate your findings and how they support your design intentions. Keep your journal of your research reflecting on its usefulness and effectiveness and from this plan your next steps.

Do this in a range of different outlets for comparison.
