4 RESEARCH TRENDS MOBILE & PORTABLE SOCIALLY OPTIMIZED TV + MOBILE USAGE We are entering the post-pc era: more and more Americans are replacing their laptops with smartphone and tablets. Relevant brands must adapt to this change, delivering targeted content to consumers based on platform. This creates numerous opportunities for service enhancement and advertising, while allowing for quick propogation of product information. 86% of mobile users use their mobile device while watching TV. A quarter of them browse content related to what they are watching. The market is ready for supplemental content and interactive tie-ins that can create a more rich, immersive brand experience. IN THE U.S., 1 in 5 owns a tablet MOBILE PAYMENT As evidenced by the App Store, mobile payments are perfect for small impulse buys like apps and in-app purchases. CONTEXTUALLY SENSITIVE In mobile applications, many services leverage the capabilities of the phone s hardware to drive the user s experience. 53% own a smartphone With the rise of Google Wallet, Square, and the extension to physical transactions via NFC technology, we willl see more frequent usage of mobile payment options and larger transactions. For example, in a TV channel application, different information could be highlighted based on the time of day. Or an event application could change its offerings based on the weather.
