1 Page 1 f 6 KhAI-ERA prject Publishable Summary fr the 2nd Reprting Perid (2013/06/ /05/31) Prject acrnym: KhAI-ERA Prject title: Integrating the Natinal Aerspace University "KhAI" int ERA Funding Scheme: Crdinatin and Supprt Actin Cnsrtium: Natinal Aerspace University Kharkiv Aviatin Institute (KhAI) Institute f Aerspace Engineering, Brn University f Technlgy Fraunhfer Institute fr Factry Operatin and Autmatin Centre fr Integrated Electrnic Systems and Bimedical Engineering, Tallinn University f Technlgy Intelligentsia Cnsultants Summary descriptin f prject cntext and bjectives The verall aim f the KhAI-ERA prject was t integrate the Natinal Aerspace University (KhAI) int the Eurpean Research Area (ERA), by reinfrcing its cperatin capacities and twinning with Eurpean research and innvatin rganisatins in its three strngest aerspace and IT research tpics, which are als highly relevant t the FP7 Transprt, Space, ICT and Research fr SMEs wrk prgrammes: A) Cmpsite materials B) Advanced manufacturing fr aircraft assembly C) Dependable embedded systems. KhAI is the nly university in Ukraine prviding the full cycle f higher educatin in aerspace science and engineering. It has ver 1146 researchers, 700 teachers and 12,000 students. KhAI is als a majr research centre with a high ptential fr integratin int ERA as demnstrated by its participatin in many natinal and internatinal prjects. The KhAI-ERA prject was built upn KhAI s existing strengths as a high-quality research institutin via knwledge exchange, setting up jint experiments, and training develpment with the fllwing 4 excellent Eurpean research and innvatin rganizatins: Institute f Aerspace Engineering, Brn University f Technlgy (IAE-BUT), Fraunhfer Institute fr Factry Operatin and Autmatin (Fraunhfer-IFF), Centre fr Integrated Electrnic Systems and Bimedical Engineering, Tallinn University f Technlgy (CEBE-TUT) and Intelligentsia Cnsultants (Intelligentsia).

EU R&D Prgrammes participatin) and reginal sci-ecnmic impacts were increased. Wrk perfrmed and the main results achieved s far During the Perid 2 f the KhAI-ERA prject implementatin the fllwing results have been achieved: WP2 Twinning In rder t achieve a prgress in KhAI research teams twinning with the EU partners within three Research Trpics, Ukrainian and Eurpean researchers held 11 bilateral meetings (during 9 f them specific research-fcused wrkshps were rganized). Intensive knwledge exchange and setting up f jint experiments were als realized during the KhAI researchers lng-term trainings in EU partners institutins (3 fr yung researchers + 2 fr experienced researchers). As a result, KhAI-ERA partners jintly prepared 5 peer-reviewed research articles that are already published nw r submitted t internatinally-recgnized scientific jurnals as well as 7 jint publicatins in the prceedings f internatinal cnferences and wrkshps. In ttal, during the Perid 2 KhAI researchers tk part in 13 valuable internatinal cnferences relevant t KhAI-ERA Research Tpics. 3 Page 3 f 6 During the same perid, t increase University internatinal visibility, widen cperatin with Eurpean research cmmunity and be aware f recent changes and state-f-the-art in internatinal cperatin plicies, the KhAI administrative staff tk part in 6 relevant events dedicated t facilitatin f internatinal cllabratin. In the cntext f netwrking relevant t Hrizn 2020, KhAI staff actively participated in natinal, internatinal and EU-rganized netwrking and brkerage events (in ttal, 5 such kind events were visited during Perid 2). EEP2013 Cnference (Vilnius, September 2013) BEAWARE Wrkshp (Bucharest, September 2014) AIR DAYS 2014 (Lisbn, Octber 2014) Due t these activities f KhAI research and management staff, during the 2014 and 2015 runds f H2020 calls 9 prpsals with KhAI participatin were submitted fr evaluatin. 2 f these prpsals were based n KhAI s prject ideas, in 7 KhAI has as a rle f partner, in 2 a rle f Crdinatr. WP3 Disseminatin and Prmtin Activities under this WP were aimed n KhAI, as well as KhAI-ERA prject, prmtin in Eurpe and Ukraine. Results achieved fr the Perid 2 were: KhAI-ERA prject website ( regularly maintained and all inf updated in 3 languages (English, Ukrainian and Russian). 5 Page 5 f 6 Research Tpic C (6 Training Mdules): Dependable embedded systems (Vlume 2) Als, ne Training Mdules Cllectin dedicated t H2020 issues was prepared fr general Ukrainian research cmmunity. All Training Mdules Cllectins are available at the prject website KhAI-ERA Training Mdule Cllectins prepared during the Perid 2 WP5 Strategy Develpment Based n the KhAI Evaluatin Reprt (prepared during Perid 1) and taking int accunt EU experts recmmendatins, the University Research and Develpment Strategy fr perid was develped under the leadership f the KhAI Vice-Rectr n Science Prf. Olexandr Gaydachuk. Als, fllwing the spirit f KhAI R&D Strategy, KhAI Research Tpics Leaders prepared mre specific Strategies f their Departments and Research Tpic Teams taking int accunt current level f research and internatinal activities, available persnnel, facilities, etc. Taking int accunt radical plitical, ecnmic and scial changes in Ukraine during years, the University Administratin recgnizes the necessity t mdify develped KhAI R&D Strategy accrding t the new Ukrainian R&D&I framewrk. Hwever, as the new legislatin is still under develpment and/r apprval n gvernmental level, it has nt been dne during the prject implementatin. Strategy will be updated after prject cmpletin as far as new regulatin cme in frce, thus lng-term impact f KhAI-ERA prject will be ensured.

6 Page 6 f 6 Assessment f the KhAI-ERA prject efficiency was perfrmed by means f cllectin, prcessing and cmparisn f results achieved by Research Tpic teams fr 3-years perid befre the KhAIERA prject start ( ) and 3-years perid f the KhAI-ERA prject implementatin ( ). Analysis demnstrates psitive influence f the KhAI-ERA prject implementatin n research ptential f all members f Research Tpic A, B and C teams, which is quantitatively equivalent t 12%, 56% and 37% respectively. The expected final results and their ptential impact and use Cntributin t RTD capacity building in Ukraine due t KhAI successful twinning with Eurpean excellent R&D rganizatins, University human ptential increasing and KhAI Research Strategy preparatin fr the next 5+ years. Enhanced participatin f the Ukrainian researchers in the 7th Framewrk Prgramme and HORIZON 2020 resulted frm: KhAI active netwrking with EU research centres; prmtin f KhAI and ther Ukrainian rganizatins as ptential partners fr H2020 and raising Ukrainian researchers awareness n H2020, as a result f Ukrainian Transprt NCP activities supprted by the prject. Enhanced scpe f the KhAI research activities with increased linkage with ecnmic and scial envirnment: due t KhAI lcatin in a specific aerspace cluster f Ukraine, the KhAI-ERA activities created psitive sci-ecnmic impact via increasing lcal cmmunity awareness in EU research activities and prgrams (thrugh the specialized FP7/H2020 and thematic trainings), intrducing KhAI and EU jint research results t lcal RTD cmpanies (incl. SMEs), and cperatin with lcal authrities fr widening cperatin with EU. Netwrking with ther research centres in Member States r Assciated Cuntries, prvided by participatin in key Eurpean cnferences/wrkshps related t the prject research areas and use f ther significant Eurpean pprtunities fr netwrking and cntacts establishing (e.g. EU InfDays, EASN events, ETNA brkerage sessins, and thers). Increased jb pprtunities in the cuntry fr yung scientists: Yung KhAI researchers were clsely invlved in scientific knwledge exchange and jint experiments setting up, and participated in the training develpment in cllabratin with EU partners. University Strategy was als aimed n KhAI sustainability, which wuld invlve determining ways t attract, train and retain yung scientists.
