1 Job Description Job title: Responsible to: Responsible for: Communications Assistant Marketing Manager Assisting the Marketing Manager and Press Manager in delivering Turner Contemporary s communications strategy. Purpose of Job/Key objectives - To assist the Marketing Manager and Press Manager with the practical implementation of Turner Contemporary s marketing and communications strategy, in order to meet Turner Contemporary s objectives of increasing visitor figures and widening audiences, improving knowledge of our audience and increasing digital content and developing our digital strategy. - To market Turner Contemporary s varied programme (including exhibitions and events, learning activities, outreach, commercial outlets; retail, shop and venue hire, fundraising development and activities, and special projects). - To promote Turner Contemporary and Margate/Thanet as a tourist destination and deliver key messages to a variety of audiences and stakeholders, through a wide range of marketing and communication channels, projects and initiatives. - To support and strengthen our Customer Relationship Management, follower base and opportunities to engage with audiences in new, deeper ways. - To assist Turner Contemporary s Press Manager with maintaining Turner Contemporary and Turner Contemporary Enterprises profile in the media, including regional and national outlets Key tasks: - Update Turner Contemporary websites (including production of editorial and graphic content, image manipulation and creation of web banners). - Develop, implement and monitor our digital strategy including Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). - Ensure listings placements for all Turner Contemporary exhibitions and events. - Maintain and develop Turner Contemporary information on key external websites (including Culture 24, BBC Things To Do, Visit Kent, Visit Thanet and more).

2 - Organise and deliver competitions, seasonal offers and promotions in conjunction with partners and media. - Engage with fans and followers on Facebook, Twitter and other social media channels to support Turner Contemporary s marketing objectives, and develop wider social media presence (e.g. LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube channel, Flickr, etc) and initiate development of these areas and respond to digital trends. - Deliver Turner Contemporary s e-marketing schedule. - Monitor and report on the success of e-marketing campaigns, social media and Turner Contemporary website analytics. - Oversee production and distribution of printed materials such as leaflets, posters and in-house notices/signage. - Liaise with relevant members of the Turner Contemporary team to maximise promotion of Turner Contemporary shop, café, membership scheme and fundraising campaigns through both press and marketing. - Assist with delivery of press launches and cultivation and relationship building events, including logistics, invitation lists and help coordinate mailings for exhibition launches. - Assist with production of audio, audio-visual and other digital content for Turner Contemporary s website and digital outlets. - Assist with delivery of press campaigns, responding to media enquiries and image requests. - Liaise with copyright holders to set up image license agreements, ensuring adherence to copyright law for all images reproduced by Turner Contemporary. - Organise and maintain press archive and digital image archive including records of parental consent and photographer credits - as well as press coverage achieved. - Establish and develop links within local community including hoteliers and service staff in the tourist sector, and other relevant community. groups to reach new audiences and encourage influencers to act as ambassadors for Turner Contemporary. - Coordinate data collection and data entry and contribute to surveying, focus groups and other methods of data collection. - Create various reports such as marketing data analysis and audience research. - Act as an ambassador for Turner Contemporary and its programmes, maximise any opportunities that arise to promote the gallery and be proactive in developing and implementing new campaigns (including digital campaigns) to increase and widen engagement. - Assist with internal communications including keeping Turner Contemporary front-of-house staff and volunteers informed. - Assist the Marketing Manager and Press Manager with any urgent tasks that may arise and any other duties that may be reasonably required.

NB this job description is provided to assist the post holder to know their principal duties. It may be amended however from time to time in consultation with you, by or on behalf of the Director of Turner Contemporary without change to the level of responsibility appropriate to the post. Person specification Specification Minimum 1 year experience working as part of a busy Marketing, PR or Communications team in an arts organisation/visitor attraction Excellent communication skills and relationship management. Proven excellent copywriting skills. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail, proof reading and collating information into reports. Excellent digital skills and experience Content Management Systems, MS office applications, social media, Wordpress, Google Analytics, e- marketing and Contact Relationship Management systems. Experience of gathering and creating content for print material and digital channels. Experience of the museum and gallery sector. Experience of recording and maintaining database records. Audience data collection and analytics. Mac/Photoshop/Indesign experience. Search engine optimisation and data analytics. Digital marketing & content production including audio-visual content and e-newsletters. Design and print production management Event management

4 Demonstrable experience of working and liaising with external partners and organisations. Excellent time and project management skills and the ability to juggle a wide range of competing demands. 5 About Turner Contemporary Turner Contemporary is a visual arts organisation, founded in 2001, to contextualise, celebrate, and build on JMW Turner s association with Margate. Turner Contemporary is a gallery and visitor attraction of national and international importance and a key part of Kent s cultural infrastructure. We act as a catalyst for the regeneration of Margate, aiming to reinvigorate civic pride and inspire people to broaden their horizons and achieve their full potential. We are based in a world-class gallery, designed by award winning architect, Sir David Chipperfield and are the largest purpose built gallery in the South East of England outside of London. Since the gallery opened in April 2011, Turner Contemporary has gone from strength to strength. We have welcomed 1.3 million visitors so far to the gallery, achieved a huge national and international profile and put Margate firmly back on the map. Turner Contemporary is a charity governed by a Board of Trustees Chaired by John Kampfner. Our mission statement (below) is used to help determine the various activities which we undertake as well as defining our values as an organisation. The gallery programmes three exhibition seasons per annum in the upstairs, environmentally controlled gallery spaces. The Sunley Gallery, on the ground floor, is used for commissions and large-scale existing works and the Clore Learning Studio also has a programme of work. In addition, we have a vibrant and active Learning and Public Programme in which all staff are able to participate.
