Precision Extrusion for the Aerospace Industry

Aluminum profiles and components for the aerospace industry Aluminum precision extrusion: the facts Aluminum profiles for the aviation and aerospace industry must be lightweight. The strength and the surface area of the profile are also very important. Thanks to our extensive range of coatings, our variety of aluminum and magnesium alloys, and our lightweight extrusion profiles with wall thicknesses from 0.25 mm, we meet all the requirements set by the aerospace industry. Mifa precision extrusion is unmatched, our exceptional level of specialisation guarantees dimensional tolerances from ± 0.02 mm. We can achieve ten times more precision than NEN-EN , the standard for aluminum extrusion. Our profiles exceed the standards of straightness, torsion, concentricity, parallelism, surface roughness and fit. precision extrusion Dimensional tolerances from ± 0,02 mm. low volume extrusions (> 10 kg) Alternative to machining solid material. freedom of design Design without concession. 5,98 + 0,01-0,02 tolerances minimum quantity maximum quantity profile sizes profile weight surface roughness wall thickness From ± 0,02 mm From 10 kg Unlimited From ø 3 mm to ø 180 mm 220 x 60 mm From 0,003 kg/m to 10 kg/m From Ra 0.3 in extrusion direction From Ra 0.5 in transverse direction From 0,25 mm 0,6 scale 1:1 27,3 x 23,3 mm (length x width) 1,17 2,4 + 0,02-0,01 ø 2,3 1,21 + 0,02-0,01 ø 2,75 6,02 + 0,01-0,02 1

Component supplier through vertical integration Mifa is capable to take on responsibility for the entire process when developing and producing aluminum and magnesium profiles and components. The combination of precision extrusion, machining, surface treatment, post-processing, and assembly in house! not only ensures an optimal product... thanks to this vertical integration we also reduce total production time. < machining Automated machining of profiles with a length of up to 6,500 mm. We write the software and make our own moulds for the CNC machines. Every profile is unique and often requires a specific processing technique, especially for visible surfaces. We therefore use CAD/CAM programs such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, and Unigraphics. responsibility Mifa produces the entire component, which means we also assume responsibility for the components we deliver. We already do so for many customers, such as Airbus, Diehl, FACC, and Zodiac. extrusion in small quantities (> 10 kg) Extrusion is an excellent alternative to other production technologies, especially in small series. By starting with a profile instead of block material, you save considerable processing time and significant costs. Die costs for profiles are relatively low, making this a cost-effective solution for series from 10 kg. surface treatment The surface of the profile is very important in the aerospace industry. Mifa has an extensive range of functional and customer-specific coatings to improve the product. < precision extrusion EN and EN are the accepted norms for the extrusion of aluminum profiles. They permit deviations of ±0.15 mm or more. Mifa far surpasses these norms, performing precision extrusion within tolerances as exacting as 0.02 mm. This provides countless possibilities for extrusion profiles and aerospace components. < asssembly and other techniques Mifa performs numerous processes and techniques in house, from assembly to bending, brushing, belt grinding, sealing, soldering, welding, and masking. With our knowledge and experience, we offer you the right technology for each aerospace product, using processes that are all available in house. > Brushing 2 3

Alloys for the aerospace industry 6061, 6082, 7075, and E43 alloys for the aerospace industry For best results, the selection of good aluminum or magnesium alloys is of great importance. Mifa extrudes the following aluminum and magnesium alloys. Other alloys are available on request. aluminum magnesium specials EN AW 2024 AZ EN AW 3003 AZ 61 EN AW 6005A EN AW 6060 Elektron 43 EN AW 6061 EN AW 6063 EN AW 6082 EN AW 7020 EN AW 7075 EN AW 1050 EN AW 7022 the 6xxx series These alloys contain silicon and magnesium. We work with the following alloys: 6060, 6063, 6005A, 6061, and We also work with the following specials: 6066 and In general, the more magnesium and the more silicon that are added to the aluminum, the stronger the end product will be. These alloys are frequently chosen as they have good weldability, corrosion resistance, machinability, anodisability, and electrical conductivity and 6082 are alloys commonly used in the aerospace industry due to their strength. These are alloys that are prescribed by the aviation authorities. Airbus and Boeing use these alloys, particularly for aircraft interiors. magnesium alloys also used in the aerospace industry Mifa extrudes not only aluminum, but also magnesium. Magnesium is 35% lighter than aluminum, is strong, and has dampening qualities. We produce three magnesium alloys: E43 (Elektron 43), a magnesium alloy permitted in the aerospace industry for making seats, AZ 31-F (with 3% aluminum), and AZ 61-F (with 6% aluminum). the 7xxx series Our standard range includes 7020, 7022, and 7075 from the 7xxx series. As well as aluminum, the 7020 consists of magnesium and zinc. Copper is also added to the 7022 and These alloys can be hardened and are some of the strongest we have. However, once again, they have reduced malleability and are therefore not suitable for complex products that require high precision is a very strong alloy that is commonly used in the aerospace industry for structural parts. 6 7

Mifa is AS9100 and Airbus certified Customers Adhering to these standards means we not only perform process control but strict product control as well. Mifa employs an AS 9100/EN 9100-certified quality management system. The market sets stringent requirements for the quality of the surface, the strength of the material, and the weight of the precision profiles. 100% aerospace proof With its AS 9100 and Airbus certifications, Mifa confirms that its production and business systems meet the demanding quality standards for the aerospace industry. Mifa works for various trendsetting manufacturers and suppliers in the aviation and aerospace industry worldwide. We deliver aluminum and magnesium extrusion profiles and components to customers such as: / Airbus group / B/E Aerospace / Diehl Aerosystems / Zodiac Aerospace / Thales group / FACC / UTC Aerospace systems total supplier for our aerospace customers Mifa is happy to take on the responsibility for the entire process when developing and producing aluminum and magnesium components. Thanks to our combination of precision extrusion, machining, surface treatment, and assembly, we can reduce the total production time. Since we produce the whole component, we also assume responsibility for the components we deliver. 8 9
