VISION SMIFU KEY SMIFU TARGETS BY 2030 The mining industry is an important supplier of efficient and sustainable solutions to meet the needs of modern society for metals and minerals. Safe, Lean and Green technology and an innovative organisation attract talented young men and women to meet the grand challenges and opportunities of future mineral supply.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES AND CONCEPTS FOR THE INTELLIGENT DEEP MINE OF THE FUTURE Consortium of 26 organisations from 10 European countries. LKAB is the coordinator Budget 25 million where of 16 million EU grant

PART 2: LKAB CONTRIBUTION TO THE RAW MATERIALS INITIATIVE - REDUCING EUROPEAN IMPORT DEPENDENCY OF RAW MATERIALS A SWEDISH AND POLISH CONTRIBUTION TO THE EU RAW MATERIALS INITIATIVE. EUROMINES, BRUSSELS SEPT 5, 2012 Per-Erik Lindvall, Senior Vice President Technology & Business Development, LKAB

LKAB in brief #3 in the world as iron ore pellet producer and #1 in Europe 90 percent of iron ore production in the EU Mton of products, net sales for 3.4 billion One of the largest Swedish industrial investors ( 2.5 billion over the last 5 years) to grow production, increase performance in iron-making a and further limit environmental foot-print About 4,000 employees in 15 countries 10

Narvik Harbour Kiruna Underground mining and processing Malmbanan Railway Narvik - Luleå Malmberget Underground mining and processing Svappavaara Open pit mining and processing Luleå Harbour and Head Office IRON ORE OPERATIONS

12 Steel production will continue to grow (End Of Life Recycling Rate already 70-90% 1 ) 1 Recycling rates of metals. UNEP 2011

Mertainen Start planned in 2015 Gruvberget In operation May June Plans to restart operations before 2015 E10 highway towards Kiruna Power network Pelletising Leveäniemi Start planned in 2015 Malmbanan railroad THE SVAPPAVAARA FIELD - EUROPE S BIGGEST IRON ORE PROJECT

WE PLAN FOR 35 % GROWTH UNTIL 2015

EUROPEAN GROWTH OF PRODUCTION THE BEST GLOBAL GREEN SOLUTION Lowest CO 2 emissions for iron ore pelletising 50% CO2 reductions and energy efficiency improvements in the European steel industry Germany/Europe most most resource-efficient resource-efficient plants steel in plannts the world 15

HIGH TECH PROCESS INDUSTRY High technology mining Clean technology for pelletising plants Effective and environmentally friendly logistics World-leading R&D in pelletising and ironmaking

A PART OF THE EUROPEAN PROCESS INDUSTRY Steel industry (mainly in Europé) Train/Harbours Pelletising Miineral processing Mining Exploration 17

OUR LKAB EXPERIMENTAL BLAST FURNACE CONTRIBUTES TO SOLUTIONS FOR OUR CUSTOMERS ULCOS Ultra Low CO 2 Steelmaking European FP Project to reduce CO 2 by 50% in iron-making 18

APATITE AND RARE EARTH ELEMENT PRODUCTION FROM OUR APATITE IRON ORE Apatite production from our iron mines (tailings and running production) 800 ktonnes per year that can be used as feed for fertiliser production 4000 tonnes per year in REE Feasibility study under way 19

HOW DO WE CONTRIBUTE TO EUROPEAN POLICIES AND OBJECTIVES (I)? Raw Materials Initiative Decreasing European import dependency of iron ore by expanding our operations in the Arctic region from 26 Mton to 37 Mton of products 2015 and continued growth thereafter. Decreasing European import of apatite and (heavy) REE by re-processing our tailings. Feasibility study under way. We strive for 800 ktonnes/a of apatite and 4,000 tonnes of REE/a from FP7/Horizon 2020 Supporting the ETP Sustainability Mineral Resources since its launch Co-ordinator for the NMP study I 2 Mine starting 2012 (Budget 25M) Founding member of the SPIRE PPP - consortium Prepared to participate in the EIP Raw Materials Fully supporting the KIC Raw Materials 20

HOW DO WE CONTRIBUTE TO EUROPEAN POLICIES AND OBJECTIVES (II)? Resource efficiency LKAB energy and climate strategies with a view towards 2050 and aligned with EU targets Participating in the ETS II/III and eligible for state-aid as being energyintensive, with high risk of carbon leakage Presently preparing LKAB long-term sustainability strategy TransEuropeanNetwork-Train Our main transport routes are defined as part of the European core grid. We strive for single track railways to double railways Kiruna Narvik to grow production and decrease European import dependency, grow the region with new and expanding SMEs. 21
