7 Buffalo Saddles Specifications How To Specify a Buffalo Saddle The Thomas Buffalo Saddle shall exhibit construction and design characteristics as follows: T All rubber components shall be moulded EPDM T The saddle head shall be cast Ductile Iron T Bolting shall include Half Moon washers enabling the bolt head to swivel in the cast Ductile Iron saddle head T Saddle straps shall be Stainless Steel Grade 304, folded at the ends and punched. Welded saddle straps are not permitted T Saddle heads must be Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coated to SANS 1217 minimum 250 microns Dry Film Thickness (DFT) T Note: the outlet of a Buffalo Saddle can never exceed half the tapped into pipe diameter for risk of pipe cracking and failure. Different tap in saddles and tees o ff e r v a r i e d a d v a n t a g e s a n d p e r f o r m a n c e characteristics. Possibility of Pipe Cracking When tapping into old and damaged pipes there always exists the possibility of the pipe wall cracking. Particularly with Asbestos & Fibre Cement pipe, where, a full circle rubber mat seal is essential. Therefore the installer should select an Easi Tee or Ultra Saddle / Tee. Pressure Performance Buffalo Saddles, Service Saddles, DI Saddles for PVC pipe and Easi Tee products offer a far higher pressure performance than Ultra Saddles & Tees. Corrosion Resistance Stainless Steel and Ductile Iron products will offer a superior corrosion resistance. At least better than mild steel products such as the Easi Tee.
