2 Introdu ctio n UBEPOL VCR isa new type of synthetic rubber developed by UBE's technology. UBEPOL VCR consists ofmicro-dispersed Syndiotactic 1,2-polybutadiene(SPB) with high melting point and crystallinity, and high cis-l,4-polybutadiene rubber matrix. UBEPOL VCR is improved on the processability and a lot ofthe physical properties of conventional polybutadiene rubber. UBEPOL VCR617 contains about 17wt syndiotactic 1,2- polybutadiene(spb) and emphasizes processability, high hardness and high modulus. UBEPOL VCR450 is designed to contain about 4wt SPB in high eis- 1,4-polybutadiene rubber matrix which has a broad molecular weight distribution and a high linearity of molecular chain, in order to wellbalance processability with physical properties. Also, UBEPOL VCR has excellent open roll mill behavior, especially at high temperature condition. Fig.2 shows open roll mill behavior of UBEPOL VCR412 compared with UBEPOL BR150. And UBEPOL VCR has the advantage of high hardness, high modulus, good tear resistance. Pico abrasion resistance and cut erowtb resistance. 4 '.

In rubber industries, it is important that the vulcanizates are evaluated with same hardness or same modulús. Table 4 shows that typical properties of the vulcanizates controlled to have same hardness by carbon black loading. In case of same hardness recipe, L1 T and Rebound are superior to high cis-l,4-polybutadiene rubber, and the specific gravity becomes to be small. UBEPOL VCR contributes to the weight reduction of rubber products and the fuel consumption reduction. 5
