5 General data Series Alications Grundfos circulator ums, tyes UPS, UPSD, are designed for circulation of liquids in heating and airconditioning systems. Pums with bronze um housings are suitable for circulation in domestic hot water systems. eating systems General examles of systems in which UPS, UPSD ums are suitable are shown below. 6 Functions Series Seed switch The um offers three seeds for adjustment of um erformance to the system in question. Pums with rotection module Indicator lights and seed indication Standard module The module is standard in single-head ums and is also offered as standard in twin-head ums. The um must be connected to the mains via an external contactor. The contactor is to be connected to the um s built-in thermal overload switch to rotect the um against overload at all three seeds. Standard module T Protection module The rotection module is sulied as an accessory for single-head and twin-head ums. When equied with a rotection module, the um can be connected to an external switch directly, as the builtin rotection against overheating rotects the um at all three seeds. Furthermore, the module has two indicator lights. 7 Functions Series Protection module indicator lights The function of the indicator lights is shown in the table below. Indicator lights Green Red Note: Pums with rotection module must not be connected to a frequency converter. Relay module Descrition Off Off The um has been stoed. The electricity suly has been switched off, thermally cut out or a hase is missing. On Off The um is oerating. On On Three-hase ums only: The um is oerating, but the direction of rotation is not correct. Off On The um is cut out by the thermal switch. The relay module is standard in twin-head ums and an otional extra for single-head ums. The module enables direct connection of the um to an external mains switch and an external oerating or fault indication device. The signal outut for an external signal device can be set to activation during oeration or fault by means of the selector switch. As standard, the signal oututs of relay modules in twinhead ums are interconnected so that the ums are oerating alternately as duty um and standby um. The um is connected directly to the mains as the um incororates overload rotection at all three seeds. If the um has been cut out by the thermal overload switch, it will restart automatically when it has cooled to normal temerature, rovided the external on/ off contact is closed. Selector switch for signal outut Relay module Signal outut of relay module The relay module is equied with a signal outut for external oerating or fault indication. The um is or has been cut out by the thermal overload switch and it has been stoed by an external on/off switch. Note: Pums with relay module must not be connected to a frequency converter. Seed switch T Indicator lights on relay module The indicator lights on ums with relay module have more detailed oerating and fault indications. All ums with relay module are equied with a green and a red indicator light. Their functions are as shown in the table below. 7

8 Functions Series Oerating modes of twin-head ums Twin-head ums have a relay module in both terminal boxes, which are interconnected by a -core cable. P P T 9 In addition to the signal functions, the signal outut of the relay module for twin-head ums can be used for controlling the oerating mode of um and. It is ossible to choose between three oerating modes:. Alternating oeration (factory setting). The ums oerate alternately as duty and standby um, resectively. Changeover takes lace every hours. If the duty um is cut out due to a fault, the standby um will automatically start. During changeover both ums will be running for a short eriod to ensure a low-noise changeover.. Standby oeration. The ums oerate continuously as duty and standby um, resectively. If the duty um is cut out due to a fault, the standby um will automatically start at a signal from the outut of the duty um. The sequence can be changed to make the standby um oerate as duty um.. Single-um oeration. The ums run indeendently without communicating with each other.

Earthing or neutralization can be used for rotection against indirect contact. A current or voltage-oerated earth-leakage circuit breaker can be used as extra rotection. Never make any connections in the um terminal box unless the electricity suly has been switched off. The um must be earthed and connected to an external mains switch. The oerating voltage and frequency are marked on the um namelate. ake sure that the motor is suitable for the electricity suly on which it will be used. Pums with standard module The um must be connected to the mains via an external contactor. The contactor is to be connected to the um s built-in thermal overload switch at terminals T and T to rotect the um against overheating at all three seeds. Note: If the um is also rotected by means of a motor starter, the starter must be set to the current consumtion of the um at the chosen seed. The motor starter setting must be changed every time the um seed is changed. The current consumtion at the various seeds is stated on the um namelate. The relay module has a signal outut for an external oerating or fault signal device. 11 Connection Series Twin-head ums with relay module The ums are interconnected by a -core cable and factory-set to oerating alternately as duty and standby um. Changeover takes lace every hours. The following figures shows the electrical connections and the selector switch setting for the various oerating modes. P P T 976 In the case of single-um oeration, the cable between the ums is to be removed. The ums must be set individually and connected searately to mains, see age "Single-head um with relay module". Signal outut of twin-head ums The signal outut of twin-head ums can be used directly, rovided it is not already being used for communication between the ums. If an outut that is used for communication between the ums is to be used as signal outut, an intermediate relay is required. See examle below. The examle shows a single-hase um in alternating oeration with external fault indication in case of fault on um or both ums. 12 Connection Series Installation The um must be installed with horizontal motor shaft. Possible terminal box ositions Single-head ums Flow direction T Twin-head ums T 9 Note: Twin-head ums in vertical ies with downward liquid flow or in horizontal ies must always run at maximum seed. Twin-head um mounted in horizontal ies must be fitted with an automatic air vent in the uer art of the um housing. T 99 For standard terminal box ositions, see technical data from age 5.

13 Construction Series Construction The UPS, UPSD ums are of the canned rotor tye, i.e. um and motor form an integral unit without shaft seal and with only two gaskets for sealing. The bearings are lubricated by the umed liquid. Attention has been focused on using as few materials as ossible, and the use of materials that might cause roblems in connection with disosal have been omitted. 14 Series Pumed liquids Thin, clean, non-aggressive and non-exlosive liquids, not containing any solid articles, fibres or mineral oil. In domestic hot water systems, it is advisable to use bronze ums only for water with a degree of hardness lower than arox. g d. For water with a higher degree of hardness a TP dry-rotor um is recommended. If the um is installed in a heating system, the water should meet the requirements of acceted standards on water quality in heating systems, e.g. the German standard VDI 5. The ums must not be used for the transfer of inflammable liquids such as diesel oil and etrol. Temerature limits Ambient temerature: C to C Liquid temerature For short eriods: + C Continuously: C to + C Domestic hot water: U to +6 C Storage temerature: C to +55 C. Deending on the cast-iron version and the um alication, the maximum liquid temerature may be limited by local regulations and laws. Technical data Relative humidity: ax. 95%.
