It is produced by the direct reduction of high grade magnetite iron ore. This process results in spongy particles (see photomicrographs) which have good compressibility, exceptionally good green strength and produces parts with good edge integrity. Ancor MH-1 has been produced by Hoeganaes Corporation since the early 195's and has been the "workhorse" of the P/M Industry longer than any other powder grade.
