5 Rubber Coated Rollers Fife Engineering has been manufacturing and refurbishing rollers for industries such as paper, textiles, packaging, food and printing for over 50 years. We provide a comprehensive roller and engineering service to satisfy the diverse demands of industry. Our services include complete manufacture from design to finished component. Fife also regrind existing rubber or steel rollers and when required will repair journal ends which are inspected as a matter of course. Using customer s drawings or sample rollers we can manufacture rollers using materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminium or plastic. All parts are subject to a 100% inspection during and on completion to ensure our customer receives a roller as good as if not better than their original. Several rubber compounds are used in the production of rollers. The table below shows some of the most common. Typical Rubber Compounds used in Fife roller coverings, have chief properties as follows : Comound ASTM Hardness Tensile Wear Oil Concentrated Diluted Alkalis Chlorinated Ozone & Continuous Flame Code No. (Shore A) p.s.i. We will be pleased to give further details of resistance to chemicals and other properties when selecting these or any special rubber compounds to meet your needs. We service many industries with our rubber compounds: Rubber Coated Rollers Plastic extrusion Haul off rollers. Conveyor drums. Printing rollers. Fabric impregnation (glues dyes). Foodstuff, confectionery and packaging. Bag making machines. Material handling equipment. Rubber mouldings Anti-vibration mountings, pressure pads, lifting grips plus a wide variety of ancillary components where moulding and re-moulding are essential to industry, including valve rubber linings, rubber to metal bonding and slitting rubbers.

6 FIFE ENGINEERING COMPANY LIMITED ROLLERS FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY The food industry is one of the largest users of rollers in the world today. From food production and processing to packing and handling. Using various materials such as stainless steel, mild steel, cast iron, and nylon for stocks and rubber, polyurethane, and P.T.F.E. among others for coatings. Applications range from conveying systems using food quality covered drive rollers and idle rollers, stainless steel or cast steel sheeter and gauging rollers to specially manufactured knife rollers and hot knife sealing for bag sealing. In addition to roller maintenance, we will also manufacture other components from customers samples or drawings in one off s or batch quantities. Above and right are examples of rubber covered conveyor rollers and stainless steel idle roller. Below is a stainless steel grooved drum roller Collection and Delivery Service At Fife Engineering we operate a collection and delivery service for our customers using either our own vehicles or a national carrier. All components are boxed or bubble wrapped for protection during transportation. FIFE ENGINEERING S QUALITY PROMISE All work carried out by Fife Engineering is subject to a 100% quality inspection in accordance with our ISO 9001:2008 quality system. Copies of the inspection reports are available at customer s request.

7 POLYURETHANE ROLLERS AND MOULDINGS Fife Engineering has a fully equipped polyurethane department for the manufacture and/or repair of polyurethane components. Polyurethane can be moulded into very complex shapes and can be bonded to various materials. Anti-vibration mouldings, pressure pads, lifting grips, plus a wide variety of ancillary components where moulds and re-moulds are essential to industry. Above are several examples of the versatility of polyurethane, including small impellers, drive wheels and rollers. Right is a moulded polyurethane part in a polyurethane mould. Polyurethane rollers are finish ground to our customers Specifications. Hardness ranges from 30 to 95 shore and the polyurethane can be supplied in a variety of colours. Above is an example of a polyurethane coated roller used in the production of coiled sheet metal. We mould from customers existing tooling or our fully equipped tool room can manufacture tools to customer s specifications.

8 LAMINATING AND FUSING ROLLERS Fife Engineering manufactures new and recovers existing standard and heavy duty laminating rollers to ISO 9001:2000 standards. Using customer s drawings, or a sample roller we will manufacture complete new rollers in stainless steel or carbon steel. All rollers are covered in silicone compound from 40 shore to 80 shore, which is able to withstand temperatures of up to 260C. The silicone compound is processed in a clean environment both during its production and whilst roller recovering ensuring it is free from contamination. The roller recovering schedule incorporates a rigorous inspection procedure. Inclusions in the roller surface are not permitted and strict quality control during final inspection ensures defect free rollers. Above examples of rollers used for laminating in the P.C.B. industry. Roller outside diameters and journal ends are precision ground to maintain concentricity tolerances. Our inspection standards ensure that tolerances on finished rollers of 0.012mm on parallelism and +/ mmT.I.R.are achieved ensuring precise and accurate lamination.
