WOLFRAM INDUSTRIE Advantages of WITSTAR

Agenda Requirements Radiation exposure Reliable arc striking Service life High arc quality Low power consumption Low burn-off rate Quality Made in Germany for 100 years Compliance with standards Summary

TIG Electrode Requirements Good ignition and re-ignition capability Low burn-off rate Small deformation of electrode tip High arc stability Sustainable current Flexible application All requirements are surpassed by WS2 WITSTAR by far.

Requirements Electrode parts get into the weld material: The reason for this are often cracks, cavities and pores in the centre of the electrode. This leads to material nicks in the electrode during welding. It is necessary to rework the weld seam to a great extent, which causes additional costs.

Requirements Apart from the listed reasons, this can also be the result of cracks and damage at the surface. In most cases, these can be detected visually. Additional to the problems mentioned in figure one and two, the arc starts flickering during welding. Working accurately is no longer possible.

Requirements If the oxide is not distributed evenly during the production process, an uneven distribution of the oxide within the electrode may be the result. The problem here is explained in the drawing. If the electrode is slightly ground, the tip is free of oxide. The arc ignites in the area of the electrode in which the oxide concentration is higher and slowly moves towards the tip. Welding with direct current is no longer possible

Requirements The difference in the quality of electrode becomes clearest during practice. The figure shows a WS2 WITSTAR (above) and a WTh 20 electrode after 150 ignitions. The WTh 20 electrode already shows clear signs of wear due to the effusion (vaporisation) and diffusion (material transport). This effect is limited to a small area at the tip of the WS2 WITSTAR. WS2 WITSTAR China

Radiation Exposure The most commonly used electrode is the WTh 20 - easily recognisable for everyone by the red colour code Thorium oxide is added to the WTh20 in order to improve service life and ignition behaviour Thorium oxide is a radioactive material The WS2 WITSTAR has a turquoise colour code In this electrode, rare earth elements are added in order to improve service life and ignition behaviour The WS2 WITSTAR represents no danger to health

Reliable Arc Striking The ignition behaviour of the WS2 WITSTAR is reflected by very good ignition characteristics and best re-ignition, and is furthermore protected against spark failure. Comparative test by SLV München

Service Life The WS2 WITSTAR has a considerably longer service life than the WTh 20 : WTh20 WS2 WL20 Comparative test by SLV München

High Arc Quality The arc remains stable at all times. The arc does not flicker and move. The welder always obtains the same results.

High Arc Quality Every welder knows the difference to an inferior electrode from practical experience. The re-ignition behaviour and the ignition safety deteriorate rapidly. The arc ignites mostly with a laterally flickering arc and moves slowly towards the tip. The electrode tip must be cut and sharpened again. China WITSTAR

High Arc Quality This effort can be minimised by using an electrode of high quality like the WS2 WITSTAR. As can be seen in this figure, this electrode generates a clear arc, which allows for an accurate welding result. Due to the low wear and the enormously high service life, the productivity of your work is considerably increased. China WITSTAR

Low Power Consumption The WS2 WITSTAR consumes considerably less power due to a carefully ground surface and an even distribution of tungsten oxides.

Low Burn-off Rate The burn-off rate of the WS2 WITSTAR is very low compared to other electrodes. WS2 WITSTAR The electrode tip does not change during welding. Frazzling, as experienced with East Asian electrodes, does not occur. China

Quality Made in Germany For over 100 years! Less 0.2% of impurities. This is better than ISO 6848:2004 Doping content always maximum according to specification in ISO 6848:2004 Surfaces are ground and cleaned to a higher standard than specified in AWS/ISO WS2 WITSTAR Thus, reproducibility of weld seams. China

Quality Made in Germany For over 100 years! Only tested electrodes are delivered - Surface - Length and diameter - Circularity - Material This is checked for every single electrode. WS2 WITSTAR China

Compliance with Standards The international standards for electrodes are strictly complied with and surpassed in many aspects. The WS2 WITSTAR is better than the standard.

Summary WITSTAR is better for health and environment The WITSTAR is considerably better for the quality and reproducibility of the welding result Reliable arc striking Low burn-off rate Prolonged service life High quality of arc

In case you are still not convinced, test it yourself! Because only practice matters. A benefit for every TIG welder!
