Wash affected skin after handling this product. It is unlikely that this product will enter the eye(s) in the as supplied form. If steel splinters enter the eye, obtain medical attention immediately. It is unlikely that this product can be inhaled in the as supplied form. Eyewash station and normal washroom facilities. Treat symptomatically. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Suitable Extinguishing Media Use the appropriate fire extinguishing media for the surrounding environment. Hazards from The surface coatings and some components of the packaging are combustible. Combustion Products On burning they will emit carbon monoxide and other products of combustion. Special Protective Equipment for Firefighters Fire fighters should assess each situation and wear the appropriate protective clothing and respiratory protection. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Emergency Procedures Coils and sheet packs should be picked up with suitable lifting equipment. Individual sheets should be handled with the appropriate gloves to avoid cuts. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Precautions for Safe Handling Always wash hands after handling the product especially before eating, drinking, smoking, or using the toilet. Pre-painted steel should not be welded or cut with gas, plasma, electrical arc, etc., as operators may be exposed to thermally generated particles. Pre-painted steel should not be sanded, ground, or otherwise abraded, in any operation that will penetrate the top surface coating and create airborne particulate. See section 8, Exposure Controls/Personal Protection for specific control recommendations. Conditions for Safe Storage Coils and sheet packs must be stored and secured to prevent movement during storage and transport. Store in a dry environment to prevent corrosion in storage. For more information on storing this product, refer to the document Recommended Practices for Steel Coil and Sheet Storage and Stacking available from BlueScope Steel sales offices. Page 2 of 5

3 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Standards No Threshold Limit Value (TLV ) has been established for this product by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH ). Any operation, which has the potential of generating particulates including dust or fume, requires a risk assessment to be undertaken. This may require the involvement of an experienced Occupational Hygienist. Biological Exposure Standards No Biological Exposure Index (BEI ) has been established for this product. Engineering Controls No special ventilation is required for the product as supplied. Respiratory Protection Eye Protection Hand Protection Not normally required when using this product. However, if particulates are generated and engineering controls are not effective in controlling airborne exposure, then suitable respiratory protective equipment may be required. Final choice of appropriate respiratory protection is dependent upon the actual airborne concentrations and the individual circumstances. Expert advice may be required to make this decision. Safety glasses with side shields, goggles or full-face shields as appropriate, are recommended. Final choice of appropriate eye/face protection will vary according to individual circumstances (i.e. methods of handling) and according to risk assessments undertaken. Appropriate gloves should be worn when handling strip or sheet steel, to avoid cuts from splinters, burrs, sharp edges and contact with any surface treatments. Final choice of appropriate gloves will vary according to individual circumstances and according to risk assessments undertaken. 9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Appearance Melting Point Solubility Specific Gravity Flammability Thin steel coil or sheet in various colours. Approximately 1500 o C for base steel. Approximately 600 o C for metal coating. Insoluble in water, soluble in acids and the coating is also soluble in strong alkali (Air=1) Not combustible. 10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Chemical Stability Conditions to Avoid Stable under normal conditions of use None known Incompatible Materials Strong Acids and Alkalis. Decomposition Products Reactions Polymerization When burnt or overheated the surface coating and surface treatment are combustible and will emit carbon monoxide and other products of combustion whilst the base metal and metallic coating may release metallic oxides. Metallic coating can react with strong acids and alkalis, producing hydrogen gas. None known Page 3 of 5
