Metal recovery Orim started its activity with the recovery of precious metals The main stages include: - Physico Chemical treatment - Electrolysis - Production of Alloys, Fe-alloys and products Afterwards, they were produced Ag semi-manufactured. In 1998 it was created Orim Metalli, a spin-off for this specific sector (

Precious Metals Recovery by means of components separation, support incineration, smelting, leaching, electrolysis. FOTOGRAPHIC INDUSTRY Fixing solutions, X-ray films, other films WEEE, E-SCRAP, JEWELRY PCBs, connectors, contacts, PM scrap, solutions GALVANIC INDUSTRY Solutions, sludges, frame-scrap, salts Gold, Silver, Palladium, Platinum, Copper Further development: Semi-manufactured (e.g. tubes, sheets, pens, rings) today part of Orim Metalli

Recovery of Catalysts Catalysts treatment stages: Pre-treatment to reduce Hazardous characteristics Sieving and separation Roasting to eliminate Sulphur/Carbon Grinding and Reagent addition Hydrometallurgy Smelting and alloy/fe-alloy production Objectives: Steel foundry partner! Introduce Metal Salts Production Requirements of producers: Recovery is preferable to disposal Lower treatment cost Achievement of Environmental Objectives

Recovery of Catalysts Stage 1 - Pre-treatment to reduce Hazardous characteristics Often a catalyst possesses hazardous characteristics, such as selfheating in contact with air, that can resolve in self-ignition; in order to reduce any risk of this nature, ORIM applies, if necessary, a pre-treatment step to the catalyst before any other recovery activity, thus guaranteeing a correct and safe handling up to its final step. Reactive Catalyst Reaction with Reagent Stabilized Catalyst

Recovery of Catalysts Stage 2 - Sieving and separation Reactors are loaded with several layers of catalysts and inert ceramic balls. During unloading, they are normally mixed together, thus it is important to separate them through a sieve, in order to treat the catalyst only in the following steps.

Recovery of Catalysts Stage 3 - Roasting to eliminate Sulphur/Carbon The catalyst goes through a roasting step in order to oxidize and eliminate the Sulphur and Carbon present on the catalyst itself. Also other side reactions take place, transforming the metal compounds for the following wet chemical step. Based on the catalyst type, roasting will be carried out changing parameters like residence time, temperature, Oxygen profile, etc.

Recovery of Catalysts Stage 4 - Grinding and Reagent mixing for Hydrometallurgy The roasted catalyst is ground in order to increase the outer surface and therefore its reactivity in a wet chemical process, thus improving the overall recovery yield. The ground catalyst is fed into a reactor in order to extract the active metals. From this point on, the leach liquor is treated in different steps and reactors, in order to extract the contaminants from the solutions and to separate and precipitate selectively the valuable metals.

Recovery of Catalysts Stage 5 - Smelting and alloy/fe-alloy production The metal products can be transformed into alloys in situ or by other partners. Smelting can be carried out starting from the metal salts recovered in the previous section or it can be used as alternative to hydrometallurgy in some cases.

Catalysts Types
