2 ,--., CeramTec manufactures tubes with a diameter range of 0.5 mm through 300 mm and a maximum length of mm. Ceram T ec also produces inside coatings which increases the inside surface area of the tubes significantly. CeramTec manufactures ceramic tubes tor wide ranges of applications. They meet the most stringent specifications. CeramTec has years of experience in manufacturing ceramic tubes. Production and application techniques hvp hppn imnrnvpn rnntimlnllc;lv Today, ceramic tubes are manufactured with the most modern production equipment available. A companywide Quality Assurance system ensures that the highest quality levels are maintained.

3 3 Various Materials CeramTec has developed the materials Pormulit"', Dimulit8 and Rubalit für ceramic tubes. These materials guarantee economical operation of the tubes, depending on the area of applicatio.q...more details regarding the materials are on page 4 and the table on page 5. Diameter Ranges tram 0.5 through 300 mm CeramTec manufactures ceramic tubes with either both ends open or one endclosed, such is required tor pyrometer protection tubes. Various standard sizes are available tram 0.5 mm through 300mm in diameter. Upon request, tubes can be manufactured in accordance with customer's specifications and dimensions. Also production with flanges is possible. Temperature Stability up to Degrees C Excellent stability under very high temperature is an essential and a prominent property of ceramic materials. Ceramic tubes have definite advantages in comparison to other various metal, glass and plastic products. The maximum application temperature depends on the material. The application temperature is also influenced by the tube geometry, the diameter, the wall thickness and the method of application, i. e. horizontal, vertical or manufacture application. High Chemical Resistivity Ceramic tubes made by CeramTec have excellent chemical resistivity and are corrosion resistant against most acids and alkalines. Also, the stability in most metallurgical applications including neutral or reducing atmospheres are excellent. High Electricallnsulation Properties Ceramic tubes have a very high electrical insulation properties. This is very important für various applications such as in pyrometry and resistance detectors. High Mechanical Wear Resistance Ceramic tubes have high mechanical wear resistance. This is especially important für the longterm stability of products which are subject to an abrasive wear environment. Modified Inside Surface Area The significant increase in inside surface area due to a coating system or a inside surface profile, decreases the preparation of the tubes and significantly increases the reaction yield. The Quality The three fundamental functions tor Quality Assurance are quality planning, in-process quality control, and quality verification. Qudlity planning combines the selection, classification, assessment, and determination of quality characteristics. This includes determining feasibility as weil as the internal procedures, methods and actions necessary to achieve the quality requirements. All steps of quality planning are therefore directed towards the prevention of defects. Quality Controll is monitoring and correcting the manufacturing of a product in order to meet quality requirements. The ultimate goal is a defect-free production in all departments. Statistical Process Controll (SPC) is applied. Quality verification evaluates the amount of conformity between the specified and the actual quality of the product. The Quality Assurance Department conducts the required measurements (such as geometric, physical, chemical and functional property characteristics) of the finished product. This verification will be documented to the customer in an aqreed manner.

4 .;;) 4 The standard materials Por'mulit, Dimulit and Rubalit8 have been specially developed by CeramTec. They guarantee an economical operation of components in each area of their application. DimulitS Type C 610 in accordance with DIN VDE 0335 is especially suitable für applications with an operating temperature of less than degrees C (in reducing gas atmosphere less than degress C). At temperatures above degrees C (in reducing atmosphere above degrees C), we recommend our material Rubalit8 Type C 799 in accordance with DIN VDE 0335 and by all means in the case of extreme corrosive environments. Pormulite Type C 530 in accordance with DIN VDE 0335 has an excellent temperature shock resistance. It is mainly used in applications which cause the occurence of a high temperature gradients, i.e. in the case of roller hearth tubes and pyrometer protection sleeves. The table above and on page 5 show examples with summarized material properties as weil as additional suggestions for applications for the various materials.

6 Manufacturing Tolerances The manufaduring tolerances of CeramTec are in accordance with DIN The table on this page indicates CeramTec's standard tolerances for unground ceramic tubes (in mm). Tighter tolerances are subjed to individual aqreement. (amber The standard camber of ceramic tubes in accordance with DIN is a value of 0.5% of the total length. Modern production methods, as weil as continuous in-process control, enable CeramTec to surpass the standard camber values.
