DURATEK PRODUCTS USED IN THE PORT CONSTRUCTION OF EREN ENERJİ ÇATALAĞZI 1360 MW THERMAL POWER PLANT PROJECT

Steel pipes with different diameter, length and thickness to be used as jetty piles were produced with a portable machinery equipment transported to the site. Steel plates used for production were kept outside before production and painting. Considering that the construction site is right on the sea site and right next to another thermal power plant (Çatalağızı Thermal Power Plant ÇATEZ), corrosion class of the region can be classifiedasc5m accordingto ISO EPOXY COATING OF THE JETTY PILES Therefore, surface preparation got even more important to get rid of mill scale, dust and salt on the pipes before coating.

Steel surfaces were blast cleaned in custom made blast cabins using micron quartz. Surfaces were cleanedonsa2½gradeandwerefreeof rust, mill scale and all contaminants. Dust on the surface were cleaned with dry and pressurized air. Pipes with different lengths (18 m 55 m) and diameters were carried into a climatized closed painting cabin using a portal crane. EPOXY COATING OF THE JETTY PILES Only the top 8 meters of the m long pipes were the corrosion rate is the highest. coated, where KT831SolventFreeEpoxy/TarTopCoatPaintwas used to protect the pipes against corrosion. A total of 1 mm dry film thickness was obtained in 2 layers. KT 831 is thixotropic for vertical applications. Application was carried out in climatized cabins during summer and winter. Special care was taken for the conditioning of the application surface as well (dew point, surface temperature, etc.). Every pipe had a detailed ID card for the painting process. Pipes were handed over to the construction company on FIFO basis from the stock yard. Thus, all application rules were carried out without decreasing the delivery speed of the KT 831 coated pipes.

EPOXY COATING OF THE JETTY PILES KT 831 can also be applied on concrete surfaces. It provides perfect sea water and atmospheric corrosion resistance for both steel and concrete surfaces. KT 831 protects underground equipment against corrosion as well. Pipes coated with KT 831 were stacked on top of each other, bf before they were taken by the construction company.duetotheheavyweightandlargescaleofthe pipes, they were subjected to rough handling quite often. However, KT 831 was strong enough to withstand all of the mechanical challenges.

EPOXY COATING OF THE JETTY PILES KT 831 absorbs all the stresses created by the continuous hammering forces, hence no cracks form on the application surface. Micro or larger cracks created during handling, stacking or hammering cause immediate corrosion, which decreases the life span of the rest of the coating. Damaged areas on the surface due to welding or very strong impacts can be repaired with KT 831 locally after appropriate surface preparation. Pipes were carried around using rings, which were welded onto the pipes after coating. Damaged areas were cleaned with a grinder. KT 831 was applied with a brush. Tar in the formulation of KT 831 does not contain pitch and its benzo(a)pyren content is lower than 50 ppm, which complies with the EC directives.

We can coat jetty piles under water as well. EPOXY COATING OF THE JETTY PILES GSM 155 UNDER WATER EPOXY PUTTY: 2C solvent free, thixotropic underwater epoxy putty. It is used to protect steel, concrete and wooden surfaces against corrosion in tide areas or where these structures are completely under water. It provides water isolation and isolates molds during fixing. Application surfaces have to be cleaned and all creatures stuck on the surface have to be removed. GSM 155 is mixed by kneading the two components together thoroughly. Mixed GSM 155 is applied by pressing and spreading the material onto the surface. A film thickness of 4 5mm has to beobtained. b BT 140 SERIES UNDER WATER APPLICABLE SOLVENT FREEEPOXYPAINT:Surface tolerant epoxy based top coat paint. It can be applied under water and it cures rapidly. BT 140 is used to protect underwater areas of jetty piles, barges and similar structures against salt water corrosion.itcanbeappliedonconcrete, steelandwooden surfaces. All contaminants, living organisms, accumulated oil and dirt on the surface have to be removed. BT 140 has to be applied within 4 hours after surface preparation by brush.

OTHER PROJECTS Steel walk ways, jetty bollards and other structures were painted with the following Duratek products: Surfaces are cleaned on SA 2½ grade according to ISO All rust and loose layers were removed. Cleaned surfaces are coated with GR 449 SOLVENT BASED SURFACE TOLERANT EPOXY PRIMER. GR 449 canalsobeappliedonsurfaces, whichare cleaned on St 2 grade, if SA 2½ grade cleaning is not possible. Primer has high impact and abrasion resistance. GR 449 can also be applied with airless. However, in order to decrease consumption, application was carried out by roller. Approximately 80 micron dry film thickness was obtained. One day later,sa310solventbasedacrylicpolyurethane TOP COAT was applied on GR 449 to provide UV resistance. 50 micron DFT was obtained with roller application.
