Gaging and Testing Capabilities I. Suppliers Core Competencies The concept of core competency can be best described as a firm s particular benefit to customers. This is done through the companies group of skills and technologies. Core competencies add to a company s competitiveness. Companies with core competencies achieve opportunities in the market place. Corporations compete for leadership in competence. A leader in core competency typically has a choice of product markets.
