1 HOLIDAY HOMEWORK DECEMBER 2017 GRADE VIII Academic Session Dear Parents, The long awaited winter vacation is here, bringing with it the gift of togetherness that is spent in exploring books, watching informative programmes and playing games with your wards. While fun is intrinsic to their age, fruitful occupation of their time is vitally important to pave the way towards a progressive learning graph. Some Pointers: - Free play time should alternate with structured games-this cultivates sportsmanship. Assign a permanent workplace and a work time, this brings in system and discipline into the child s life. Inculcate good manners, healthy habits and respect for elders. Never ever compare or hurt their pride as it will stunt their confidence.

2 We are giving a short assignment for the vacation. We have tried to make the work enjoyable, keeping in mind their interest. Space out the work & the child will enjoy doing it. Your reading should prepare you for a group discussion based on the book. [The students who could not attend the reading program and hence did not get the book, will get it and read it, once they are back in school.] Read the book The Count of Monte Cristo and write a review on it. The following points need to be covered- a. When and by whom was it written? b. Basic story line. c. Which character of the story appeals to you most and why? d. Write down 35 new words and find their meanings 3. Mr. G. Rhydian Morgan conducted a very fruitful workshop on debating and public speaking skills in the school. His videos and talks on the same topic are available on You Tube. Have a good look at his videos and some other videos/reading material available on this topic.
