2 Introduction Humidur FP single was tested on behalf of Saudi-Aramco to the requirements of system APCS-19C, Materials System Specification 09-SAMSS-070 Qualification Requirements for Splash Zone Epoxy Compound. The test was completed with one layer of Humidur, whereas other coating systems that completed this program were applied in minimal 2 layers. A summary of the tests, the acceptance criteria and the results can be found in Appendix A. The Intertek report can be found in Appendix B. Tests This test program was changed by Saudi Aramco to more severe conditions. The test program is based on the NORSOK system 7, but is more severe: Sea water immersion at 60 C instead 40 C Cathodic Disbondment at 80 C instead of 23 C Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy: this quantifies the coating resistance and is not carried out in the NORSOK. In the APCS-19C program, the coating resistance was quantified before and after the seawater immersion and ageing resistance. The coating resistance should exceed 1x10^8 ohm.cm². These temperatures are extremely harsh conditions for a polyamine cured epoxy systems. Alternative systems set the maximum temperature load in water at 60 C. Physical property tests Package stability was tested at 52 C for 6 months. Then it was tested for weight loss, skinning, pressure and corrosion, settling, grains lumps and streaks. Humidur did not undergo any weight loss and none of the other phenomenon were observed. Adhesion values of Humidur FP single after 7 days were > 17 MPa (glue failure). Actual adhesion values are thus higher. The acceptance criterion is 8.3 MPa. Performance tests Following tests were performed: Impact resistance: This was a pass/fail test. The coating could not show any cracking or chipping at 1.25 N-m. This was visually inspected but also by means of holiday testing. Humidur passed the test. Electrochemical Impedance (EIS): This test quantifies the coating resistance. The criteria is that the coating resistance shall be greater than 1x10^8 ohm.cm². Humidur passed this test with > 10^11 ohm.cm². Immersion test: The test was performed at 60 C, the panels were visually inspected and the adhesion value could not be less than 80% of the original and EIS > 10^8 ohm.cm². Humidur did not show any degradation or rusting. The exact adhesion values could not be determined as the glue failed before Humidur but exceeds the criterion. The EIS values exceeded 10^11 ohm.cm². 3 Edge retention: Humidur was applied on plates with an angle of 90. The mean DFT at ridge shall be minimum. 80% of flat surface DFT. Humidur passed this test. Flexibility: No cracks, tears or delamination at 5.5 pipe diameter at permanent strain. Humidur did not achieve this test but this is a test that is too harsh for any polyamine cured epoxy to achieve. For this reason the test was exempted by Intertek and by Saudi Aramco. Ageing Resistance: Undercreep should be less than 8 mm and EIS > 10^8 ohm.cm². Humidur passed the test with 6.8 mm undercreep and with EIS values exceeding 10^11 ohm.cm². No decrease in coating resistance was observed. Cathodic disbondment: The test was performed at 80 C and the acceptance criteria were max. 10 mm of disbonding. Humidur had a disbonding radius of 5 mm. Conclusion Humidur was approved by Saudi Aramco for use on offshore assets after successfully completing this test program. This program is far more severe version of the Norsok test program and is especially harsh for polyamine cured epoxy systems such as Humidur as the temperatures are extremely high. Traditional epoxy systems are usually limited to an operating temperature of maximum 60 C in water. Humidur easily passed the cathodic disbondment test at 80 C. In the Norsok test program this test is performed at a temperature of only 23 C. Moreover, the coating resistance before and after the ageing resistance and seawater immersion was quantified by means of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy.
