1 Tungsten Carbide Gauge Block Tungsten carbide is an excellent material manufacture gauge blocks from. Opus tungsten carbide gauge blocks are extremely accurate, stable and have excellent wringing characteristics. Each gauge is manufactured from carefully selected materials having a hardness of approximately 500 Hv, they set standards of surface finish that are beyond materials such as steel. Opus has developed production techniques ensure a micro-fine surface on every tungsten carbide gauge block that it produces. The Opus finish guarantees excellent wringing characteristics and a high resistance wear. Opus ceramic gauge blocks (Zirco-Blocks) are manufactured from an exceptionally pure grade of zirconia ceramic. The commonly held belief that all ceramic materials are brittle and prone catastrophic failure can now be dispelled with the remarkable zirconia ceramic material which used manufacture Opus Zirco-Blocks blocks. Opus Zirco-Blocks are an effective substitute for the traditional steel gauge blocks and out perform them in many applications.the exceptional material combined with Opus s specially developed lapping techniques and strict quality control produces a gauge of exceptional quality and value Main features include: Coefficient of thermal expansion close steel Good abrasion resistance - up times that of steel Very high corrosion resistance High thermal stability - does not react quickly handling Very good wringing properties Highly resistant knocks and drops Does not burr easily Page of 5

2 Steel Gauge Block Steel is the traditional material for gauge blocks. Gauges made from steel can provide many years of useful life if used and looked after carefully. They must me cleaned carefully after use, sred in a dry environment and be protected against corrosion. Opus steel gauge blocks are manufactured from special selected steels and carefully machined provide gauges of the highest quality, all gauges have the following characteristics Highly alloyed steel Hardness greater than 63 Rc Aged and stress relieved promote stability Sets housed in a quality wooden case Precision Balls Calibrated precision balls are used in a wide range of applications including in the measurement of small internal tapers, internal annular grooves and throated worm wheels. Each standard set of balls contains a range of sizes, with three matched balls per size. The main features of Opus precision balls are as follows: Manufactured from High Carbon Chrome Steel (AISI 520-EN3) Available in metric and inch sizes Metric range 25mm or.5 2.5mm each in mm steps Inch range /6 /2 inch in /32inch steps or 9/6 inch in /6inch steps Special combination sets available Individual sizes available Different materials available Optical Parallels and Optical Flats Optical Parallels Opus optical parallels have been specifically designed check the flatness and parallelism of micrometer anvils using the natural phenomena of interference fringes. The thickness of each optical parallel has been selected ensure that the micrometer faces are checked at every quarter turn of the micrometer screw. Optical Flats Opus optical flats are a simple and effective way of checking the flatness of reflective surfaces, particularly when combined with an Opus Monochromatic Light Unit. The flats are manufactured from either fused quartz or Zerodur either 0.06 or 0.3 micron for flatness and diameters from 25mm 0mm are available as standard. Page 2 of 5

3 Monochromatic Light The Monochromatic Light Unit can be used for a wide range of applications. The main application is the checking of flatness of reflective surfaces using an optical flat. There are 4 apertures that can be selected each of which can be easily closed off if not required which enable the unit be used for: Flatness testing of reflective parts with the aid of an Opus optical flat, the monochromatic light produces excellent contrast fringes making flatness estimation relatively simple. Profile testing, Squareness testing and Straightness testing. Specification: Material: Wood and composite construction attractively finished in black and natural wood. Size: 370mm x 4mm x 4mm approximately Light Source: 35W Sodium Light Colour: 89% monochromatic yellow Wavelength: 75 micron Long series Gauge Blocks Long Series Gauge Blocks Opus long series steel gauge blocks are carefully manufactured ISO:3650:998 from specially selected steel. They have a standard gauge block cross-section of 35mm x 9mm and are available in sizes ranging from 25mm 00mm. Each gauge has clamping holes wards both ends for use with Opus ggle clamps so that combination lengths can be achieved both easily and safely. Gauges can be supplied as individuals or in sets and are available in Grades 2 K. The standard ML8 set comprises of 25, 50 75, 200, 250, 300, 400 and 500mm gauges. Page 3 of 5
