2 siasphere Demanding processes call for innovative products siasphere is an innovative, structured, high-tech abrasive. The innovation is due to the abrasive structure, and differs greatly from conventional systems as well as from agglomerates. With conventional systems, the roughness of the surface is reduced with increased use and wear. siasphere reduces this effect to a minimum, which results in consistent results over the lifetime of the product. Thanks to the special surface structure of the abrasive, a defined contact point is created between the workpiece and the abrasive, which is reflected in the exceptional performance and consistent quality siasphere is the more flexible of the two series and is designed for extremly contoured surfaces and radii. The large grit range is used in the finishing industry siasphere has a slightly stiffer, but still flexible backing, and is particularly suitable for softly contoured surfaces an flat applications where higher performance for stock removal is required. Product profile Material: non-alloy/low-alloy steels, high-alloy steels, non-ferrous metals, other hard-to-grind metals Grit: aluminium oxide Grit range: 2970 siasphere: 400/800/1000/1200/1500/2500/ siasphere: 240/320/400/600 Backing: 2970 siasphere: jj-wt cloth 2971 siasphere: j-wt cloth Coating: structured Special additive: active cooling additives Advantages Longer product life Higher cutting performance with low pressure Fewer belt changes Shorter process time Excellent and constant finish over a long period of time Fewer work steps Application Highly Recommended Recommended Recommended recommended Contact belt grinding Long belt grinding Power file Centreless grinding Applications Removing surface imperfection Applying structure Finishing Stock removal Removing discolouration

3 Consistent surface quality over the entire lifetime of the product Unused Before being used for the first time, the abrasive surface has an undamaged surface. Light wear Due to this wear of the abrasive structure, the used and blunt abrasive particles are removed from the belt surface and new, sharp abrasive grains are released. Medium wear The constant renewal of the used abrasive grain results in a longer lifetime and more consistent surface quality throughout the entire period of use, and therefore in faster and more cost-efficient work processes. Heavy wear The embedded abrasive grains and the unique structure provide a long period of use. Therefore, consistent grinding results can be achieved, even with heavy wear.

The minimal increase in the roughness of the surface is due to the decomposition of the abrasive structure (half spheres) and the associated enlargement of the grinding surface (see the function principle on page 3). With siasphere, different contact pressures have a significantly smaller impact on the roughness of the surface than with conventional abrasives. Turbine industry

5 Comparing siasphere Conventional abrasives With conventional abrasives, individual grits are coated onto the cloth using mechanical or electrostatic coating. Structured abrasives (siasphere) The innovation is due to the abrasive structure, and differs greatly from conventional systems as well as from agglomerates. Thanks to the defined spherical form (half spheres), a controlled contact surface is achieved, resulting in reproducible grinding processes. The constant decomposition of the structure continually releases fresh, sharp abrasive grain. This achieves consistent grinding performance throughout the whole lifetime of the product. Agglomerated abrasives Agglomerates are made up of many individual grits which are held together by bonding bridges. This gives rise to an abrasive covered with several layers of grit featuring a very high reserve grit capacity. The resulting self-sharpening mechanism considerably prolongs the life of these products.
