2 Alkali Swellable Associative Thickeners HISOL

3 New thickeners HISOL 301, 303, 305, 307, 308 and 700 are HASE(hydrophobically modified alkali swellable emulsion) thickeners for water based paints, inks and putties. Compared with previous HISOL D HASE thickeners, New HISOL thickeners have excellent pigment wetting properties and show less syneresis of paints based on new HISOL thickeners during long term storage. The Main advantages of New HISOL thickener emulsions are the following. Paints thickened with HISOL 301, 303, 305, 307 and 308 thickeners show excellent syneresis and settling resistance in long term storage, and less color floating problem during drying. Paints thickened with new HISOL thickeners exhibit no remarkable viscosity change in long term storage. They are stable under tropical and freeze-thaw conditions. Paints thickened with new HISOL thickeners are highly resistant to attack by microbes and their enzymes, thereby eliminating viscosity loss. You can design more biologically stable paints. Because low dosages of new HISOL thickeners are enough to achieve the required paint viscosity, it is possible to improve water sensitivity of the paints. Paints thickened with new HISOL thickeners are less costly to achieve the same viscosity than paints thickened with HEC and other HASE thickeners. New HISOL thickeners do not contain any APEO surfactants or additives. HISOL 301, 303 and HISOL 307 are for medium shear paints, and HISOL 308 is for good flow paints. In case of high PVC paints, the paints based on Styrene-Acrylic copolymer emulsion and Polyvinylacetate-Acrylate emulsion thickened with combination of HEC and new HISOL thickeners, they have good viscosity stability and less syneresis in long term storage. 5 MANUFACTURING OF THE PAINTS When new HISOL thickener emulsions meet any base, they creat a gel. To save dispersing time, it is preferable to pre-dilute the HISOL thickeners with water before adding to the paint and to agitat slowly in the tank. After adding the HISOL thickeners, appropriate (amount CA 10% based on thickener weight) of (base ammonia or AMP95) should be added to get the (ph Up to 8). If ph is low, paints show abnormal rheology and worse viscosity stability. HISOL thickener emulsions can be added not only to the grinding stage in order to raise the viscosity during the grinding, but also to the letdown stage, in order to get the desired final viscosity. But when adding in the grinding stage, it is preferable to add the AMP 95 rather than ammonia to maintain the viscosity, because of high temperature of grinding media. SAFETY AND HANDLING New HISOL thickener emulsions are slightly irritating to the skin and eyes and contact with these areas should be avoided. When handling, wear impervious rubber gloves and goggles/ facemask. For handling/operation where possible contact may occur, a safety shower and eye wash station/facility should be available. Handling should be available in well ventilated place. Use stainless steel or plastic vessel when handling. Store in a closed container between 5-40 Further detailed information can be found in MSDS.
