1 Product Group Polyurethane topcoats Characteristics Product Information Micas are fast becoming a favorite in creating a unique appearance on aircraft liveries. This repairable high solid formulation is world leader in the aerospace mica technology. Its flexible and adjustable dry-to-tape properties provide optimal processing behavior at various environmental conditions. offers four types of Aviox Advanced Micas: Aviox Advanced Mica - Coarse Effect A single color mica coating with relative coarse special effect particles to obtain a distinct mica effect. Aviox Advanced Mica - Fine Effect A single color mica coating with relative fine special effect particles to obtain a delicate mica effect. Aviox Advanced Mica - Interference Effect A multi color mica coating that changes color when looked at from different angles. This effect coating is available in different sparkling effects. The are part of the basecoat / mica / clearcoat system for exterior usage. The system consists of Aviox Finish Aviox Clearcoat UVR. - Creates unique appearance on aircraft livery - Uniform sparkling special effect appearance - Repairable - Permanent wet look - High solids - Resistance to hydraulic fluids and chemicals The is a product part of the Aviox Advanced Series which utilizes the latest high solid technology and sets the standard for minimum process times and reduced process cycle costs. 2 Surface Conditions Cleaning - The should be used in combination with Aviox Finish and Aviox Clearcoat UVR. - Observe the recoatability limits of the topcoat. - Remove oil, grease and other contaminants prior to application. - Recondition aged topcoats with e.g. Scotch-Brite type A very fine till a uniform matt surface. - Remove dust with e.g. tack rags prior to application of the finish. Instruction for Use Mixing Ratio (volume) 100 parts 50 parts 50 parts Activator or Allow products to acclimatize to room temperature before use. - Stir or shake till all pigment is uniformly dispersed before adding the hardener. - Add and stir the catalyzed mixture thoroughly. - Add the Activator or Retarder and stir the catalyzed mixture again thoroughly. Induction Time Not applicable. The product is ready for use directly after mixing Initial Spraying Viscosity (21ºC/70ºF) seconds ISO-Cup seconds Gardner Signature Zahn-Cup #2. Pot Life (21ºC/70ºF) Viscosity measurements are provided as guidelines only and are not to be used as quality control parameters. Certified information is provided by certification documentation available on request. 2 hours Dry Film Thickness (DFT) micron ( m) for mils The application and mixing characteristics of High Solid products differ from conventional products. Mix base and hardener for at least 2 minutes thoroughly. The high solid content causes a rapid film build up. Page 2 of 5 (Code 30-49)

3 Application Recommendations Conditions Temperature: Relative Humidity: 15 35ºC 59 95ºF 35 75% The may be applied in conditions outside the limits shown above. Care must be excercised to ensure a satisfactory result. Please contact your representative to determine the proper application techniques and choice of activators when environmental conditions fall outside the recommended range. Equipment Air HVLP Air Electrostatic 1.4 mm nozzle orifice 1.4 mm nozzle orifice 1.2 mm nozzle orifice - All filters in the application equipment should be removed to avoid clogging. - Do not use airless application equipment. - Extra attention should be paid when cleaning the equipment Application Scheme Step 1: Aviox Finish Observe the recoatablity limits of the relevant primer. - Use the correct Aviox Finish base coat color in line with the selected Aviox Advanced Mica color. is able to advise what color to use. - Apply one closed coat of Aviox Finish to create the base coat color. For more details check the technical data sheet of Aviox Finish (code 30-43). Step 2: Aviox Advanced Mica - The flash-off time between Aviox Finish and Aviox Advanced Mica should be minimal 3 hours and maximum 48 hours, depending on the overcoat times as mentioned in the Aviox Finish technical data sheet. - Apply the in a single closed coat, followed after minutes by a cross coat. - For an optimal, smooth and uniform mica effect it may be necessary to apply a mist coat immediately after application of the cross coat. The cross coat has to be fully wet when the mist coat is applied. Step 3: Aviox Clearcoat UVR - The flash-off time between Aviox Advanced Mica and Aviox Clearcoat UVR should be minimum 4-8 hours and maximum 48 hours. - To obtain a smooth surface, apply Aviox Clearcoat UVR in 1 or 2 Page 3 of 5 (Code 30-49)

4 Repair coats with 60 minutes solvent flash-off time in between, depending on the surface appearance (roughness) of the mica layer. For more details check the technical data sheet of Aviox Clearcoat UVR (code 30-29). Please contact your local representative for individual advice how to repair a specific mica color. Cleaning of Equipment The flash-off time between coats can differ, depending on temperatures and humidity. A low temperature / humidity will result in longer flash-off times. Solvent Cleaning C 28/15 or Solvent Cleaning The quality of the application of all coatings will be influenced by the spray equipment chosen and the temperature, humidity, and air flow of the paint application area. When applying the product for the first time, it is recommended that test panels be prepared in order to identify the best equipment settings to be used in optimizing the performance and appearance of the coating. Physical Properties Drying Times (21ºC/70ºF, 55% RH) Dry to tape 2 15 hrs; depends on color, activator and environmental conditions. Taping directly on a mica coating may result in rough edges after tape removal. To obtain the best results when taping it is advised to apply one layer of Aviox Clearcoat UVR after 4 8 hrs drying time. In this case the dry to tape times of the Aviox Clearcoat UVR will be applicable.
