3 Foreword This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T This Standard replaces GB/T Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres Salt spray tests. Compared with GB/T , the main changes are as follows: - Add the Introduction; - Add the Scope (see Clause 1); - Normative references are re-adjusted; - Modify the concentration of sodium chloride solution. And the adjustment method of ph value of the solution is specified in more detail (see Clause 3); - Modify the salt spray chamber volume to be not less than 0.4m 3 (see 4.2); - Requirements for salt spray apparatus are amended (see 4); - Add the specific requirements of re-use (see 4.6); - Add provisions to the corrosion test method of AASS test. Comprehensively modify the corrosion test method of CASS test. Partly modify the sample s basic requirements of corrosion test method of NSS test; and contents on aspects such as pretreatment, test time and after-test treatment (see Clause 5); - Add the organic coating test board s requirements (see Clause 6); - Modify the sample placement (see Clause 7); - Add new requirement of test conditions (see Clause 8); - Add after-test sample treatment method (see Clause 10); - Add the organic coating s evaluation method (see Clause 11); - Add the requirements of test report (see Clause 12); - Modify the salt spray chamber s design sketch (see Appendix A); - Add supplemental method of adopting zinc reference specimens to evaluate salt spray box s corrosion (see Appendix B); - Add experimental panel of organic coatings (see Appendix C); - Add the supplemental information that is required for experimental panel of organic Page 3 of 30

4 coatings (see Appendix D); - Add supplemental information of steel reference specimens grade (see Appendix E). This Standard uses translation method to equivalently adopt ISO 9227: 2006 "Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres - salt spray test". Those national standards, that have consistent corresponding relation with the international documents quoted in Normative Reference of this Standard, are shown in Appendix NA. This Standard makes the following editorial changes: - Delete the Foreword of ISO 9227: Add the Preface of this Standard. - Use "this Standard" to replace "this International Standard." - Add an informative appendix NA and the national standards that have consistent corresponding relation with the international documents quoted in Normative Reference of this Standard. This standard was proposed by China Machinery Industry Federation. This Standard shall be administered by the National Metal and Non-metal Overlay Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 57). Drafting organizations of this Standard: Wuhan Institute of Material Protection, Ma Anshan Dingtai Rare Earth Technology Co., Ltd., Tongxiang Caibao Lining equipment Co., Ltd., Ningbo Hi-tech Zone Far Technology Co., Ltd., Wuhan Caibao New Material New Materials Co., Ltd., and Wuhan University. 5 Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres Salt spray tests 1 Scope This Standard specifies the apparatus, the reagents and the procedure to be used in conducting the neutral salt spray (NSS), acetic acid salt spray (AASS) and copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) tests for assessment of the corrosion resistance of metallic materials, with or without permanent or temporary corrosion protection. It also describes the method employed to evaluate the corrosivity of the spray-cabinet environment. It does not specify the dimensions of test specimens, the exposure period to be used for a particular product, or the interpretation of results. Such details are provided in the appropriate product specifications. The salt spray tests are particularly useful for detecting discontinuities, such as pores and other defects in certain metallic, organic, anodic oxide and conversion coatings. The neutral salt spray test applies to: metals and their alloys; metallic coatings (anodic and cathodic); conversion coatings; anodic oxide coatings; organic coatings on metallic materials. The acetic acid salt spray test is especially useful for testing decorative coatings of copper + nickel + chromium, or nickel + chromium. It has also been found suitable for testing anodic coatings on aluminum. The copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray test is useful for testing decorative coatings of copper + nickel + chromium, or nickel + chromium. It has also been found suitable for testing anodic coatings on aluminum. The salt spray methods are all suitable for checking that the comparative quality of a metallic Page 6 of 30
