3 Azar 1395 (1390 = 100) The Export Price Index (XPI) increased 8.1 percent in Azar 1395 following a 1.9 percent rise in Aban The index level of was 4.4 percent higher than that in Azar During the first nine months of the current Iranian year, the XPI declined 7.3 percent compared to the similar period in The XPI has fallen 10.1 percent over the past twelve months. In Azar, the animal products group index moved up 5.8 percent, which was attributed to the advances in the prices for frozen fish and shrimp. The 6.6 percent increase in the vegetable products group index was mainly due to the rises in the prices for pistachio, saffron, raisin, date and liquorice extract powder. The animal or vegetable fats and oils group index turned up 4.8 percent over this month. The prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco group index rose 5.2 percent, largely due to the increases in the prices for "biscuit and wafer", ice cream, cake, non-cacao chocolate, fruit juice and potato chips. The mineral products group index increased 9.1 percent. Higher prices for propane, cement, butane, bitumen, industrial oil, copper concentrate, paraffin wax and engine oil were the major reasons for this advance. The index is computed on the Iranian Rial basis. In this month, the exchange rates of Dollar and Euro increased 6.1 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively. 1

4 The products of the chemical or allied industries group index rose 8.4 percent. The mentioned advance was led by increases in the prices for methanol, urea fertilizer, ammonia, styrene, dodecyl benzene, "detergent powders and liquids", caustic soda and glue. Rises in the prices for low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, plastic hoses and polyvinyl chloride caused 11.5 percent increase in the plastics and articles thereof, rubber and articles thereof group index. During Azar, the group index for skins and leather and articles thereof went up 6.1 percent which was attributed to the advance in the price for processed sheep skin. The wood and articles of wood group index declined 1.0 percent over this month. The group index for textiles and textile articles rose 10.0 percent, mainly due to the increases in the prices for hand-woven carpet and machine-made carpet. The footwear group index moved up 6.5 percent. Increases in the prices for "sandal with uppers of rubber or plastics" and "shoes with uppers of rubber or plastics" were the major factors for this rise. The articles of stone group index went up 5.1 percent which was principally due to the advances in the prices for "tile and ceramic", float glass and building stones. The group index for base metals and articles of base metal went up 6.7 percent, largely due to the advances in the prices for zinc ingot, cathode copper, lead ingot, hot coil iron, steel profile, aluminium ingot, and galvanized pipe. 2

5 The machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment group index increased 5.6 percent in Azar. The rise was driven by advancing prices for air cooler, cable and winding wire of copper. The prices for tractor and car radiator increased in this month, reflecting a 5.9 percent rise in the vehicles and associated transport equipment group index. 3
