1 Advanced Materials Matting Agent DT # POWDER COATINGS TECHNICAL DATA SHEET Applications Properties Processing Key data Solid, colour-stable matting agent for powder coatings For matting of epoxy/polyester and polyester / Araldite PT 81 & PT 91 powder coatings. Matting Agent DT has no side effect on the flow properties, shade or weathering resistance of powder coatings. The mechanical properties of the formulated coating are not influenced by DT With dark shades a slight sweating out effect from the coating surface may be observed under certain circumstances. The effectiveness and the overall performance depends on the selected polyester resin (for hybrid as well as for polyester TGIC / PT 91 systems. The matting agent is added prior to dispersion in the extruder. Attention should be paid to optimum premixing with the resin/hardener and pigment/filler components. The gloss of the end-product can be adjusted by altering the amount of matting agent added. Addition of Calcium carbonate reduces gloss but at the same time reduces the mechanical properties. Specified key data Aspect (visual) Specified key data are individually checked throughout and guaranteed. Typical key data white, yellowish powder Softening point (Mettler, DIN 519) [ C] Flash point (ISO 2592) [ C] Bulk density (ISO 151).3 [g/cm 3 ] Density at 25 C (ISO 813-3).92 [g/cm 3 ] As-supplied form Odour Shelf life (at storage temperature between 2 - C) (see expiry date on original container) Hazardous decomposition products (when disposed of in fire) Disposal l coarse, yellowish powder (< 4 mm) none 3 years carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other toxic gases and vapours regular procedures approved by local authorities Typical key data are spot checked; the values are typical for the product and are indicated for information only. The values are not guaranteed. # In addition to the brand name product denomination may show different appendices, which allows us to differentiate between our production sites: e.g. BD = Germany, US = United States, IN = India, CI = China, etc. These appendices are in use on packaging, transport and invoicing documents. Generally the same specifications apply for all versions. Please address any additional need for clarification to the appropriate Huntsman contact. April 16 Matting Agent DT # 1 of 6

The product should not be stored exposed to direct sunlight. Forced ventilation and dust masks or respirators should be used in order to ensure that operatives do not breath in dust generated by resin, hardener or formulated powder coatings. Mandatory and recommended industrial hygiene procedures should be followed whenever our products are being handled and processed. For additional information please consult the corresponding product safety data sheets and the brochure Hygienic precautions for handling plastics products. Do not use solvents Soak up with sawdust or cotton waste and deposit in plastic-lined bin Renew air 3 to 5 times an hour Exhaust fans. Operatives should avoid inhaling vapours First aid Contamination of the eyes by resin, hardener or mix should be treated immediately by flushing with clean, running water for 1 to 15 minutes. A doctor should then be consulted. Material smeared or splashed on the skin should be dabbed off, and the contaminated area then washed and treated with a cleansing cream (see above). A doctor should be consulted in the event of severe irritation or burns. Contaminated clothing should be changed immediately. Anyone taken ill after inhaling vapors should be moved out of doors immediately. In all cases of doubt call for medical assistance. April 16 Matting Agent DT # 2 of 6

3 POWDER COATINGS SPECIMEN FORMULATIONS Applications Properties Typical formulations Low gloss powder surface technologies formulated with Matting Agent DT Hybrid-systems based on Araldite GT 332 Araldite GT 63 Araldite GT 74 SP/TGIC-systems based on Araldite PT 81 Matting Agent DT is suitable for use in epoxy/polyester powder coatings based on bisphenol-a epoxy resins (e.g. Araldite GT 74, GT 73, GT 1999, GT 63) or in chalking-proof polyester powder coatings formulated with Araldite PT 81 for outdoor applications. The addition of Matting Agent DT allows gloss levels down to about 3 % to be imparted to epoxy/polyester or polyester/araldite PT 81 powder coatings. Little yellowing results from over-baking. Matting Agent DT has almost no effect on the mechanical properties of a cured formulation. A waxy leaching-out effect may occur in the surfaces of low-gloss dark coloured formulations. Formulations incorporating Matting Agent DT show good long-term storage stability and exhibit excellent flow properties. Epoxy/polyester The epoxy resins Araldite GT 74, GT 1999, GT 63 and GT 73 are recommended in combination with suitable polyesters for the formulation of epoxy/polyester hybrid powder surface technologies. Formulations based on Uralac P 5127 (DSM) or Crylcoat (Cytec) in combination with Araldite GT 74 can be cured for 3 minutes at 1 C or 1 minutes at C (table 1 and fig. 1). 5 Typical formulations (continuing) Another series of matt epoxy/polyester powder coatings incorporating Matting Agent DT and showing excellent flow properties can be formulated using the polyester Crylcoat or Formulations based on these two polyesters in combination with Araldite GT 74 or Araldite GT 63 are shown in table 2. Cure can be effected at C for 1 minutes or 1 C for 3 minutes to obtain semi-matt coatings with excellent flow characteristics (table 3 and fig. 2). The addition of Matting Agent DT to polyester/araldite PT 81 powder coatings does not impair their weather resistance in outdoor applications.
