1 17 Plansee Seminar 2009 International Conference on High Performance P/M Materials Reutte/Austria May 25 30, 2009 First Circular

2 17th Plansee Seminar May 25 30, 2009 organized and hosted by: The Plansee Group Scope of the Plansee Seminar The presentations at the 17th Plansee Seminar will include all market segments where products based on High Performance P/M Materials (metals, composites and hard materials) are currently playing an important role, or where they are promising alternatives to present material solutions. In particular, the following fields of application will be addressed by keynote lectures and/or by oral and poster presentations: High Performance P/M Metals and Composites for application in: aerospace automotive electronics thermal management lighting technology medical technology coating technology power engineering chemical engineering metal production glass and ceramics production high temperature furnaces and devices P/M Hard Materials for application in: wear parts cutting tools for metals, composites, graphitic materials, wood and stone precision tooling chipless forming new areas for hard materials

3 Message from the Secretary Back in 1952, when Prof. Paul Schwarzkopf invited a group of innovative scientists and engineers, a most successful series of P/M conferences was born. Today I am delighted to invite you to the 17th Plansee Seminar on High Performance P/M Materials. It will be held on the premises of the Plansee Group in Reutte, Austria from May 25 30, 2009 and provides a forum for scientific and technical presentations as well as fruitful discussions within the international P/M community. Traditionally, the Plansee Seminar has been an arena for new insights into the material science of High Performance P/M Materials, and for discussions on the progress made in the manufacture of P/M products. The frontiers and challenges of emerging applications and technologies will again be a focal point of the conference. After a prosperous period of scientific and technical development, the Plansee Seminar will provide ample opportunity to present and discuss progress in all P/M disciplines including novel applications, non-conventional processing as well as new powders, alloys, compounds and composite materials. It will also supply an excellent opportunity to keep up with recent innovations in P/M. Overviews of the major P/M markets and key-note lectures on material trends, novel processes and applications will be presented by distinguished experts from science and industry. In oral and poster contributions we will be discussing the latest results in the science and technology of powder based materials. Last but not least, there will be sufficient opportunity to refresh personal relationships and develop new ones, both during the scientific program and the social events. It will be our pleasure to welcome you at the 17th Plansee Seminar! Lorenz S. Sigl Secretary of the Plansee Seminar
