2 echnical information 4 eets SAE Standard J54 Quality engths of finished tubing shall be reasonably straight and have smooth ends free from burrs. ubing shall be free from scale and injurious defects and have a workmanlike finish. Surface imperfections such as handling marks, die marks, or shallow pits shall not be considered injurious defects provided the imperfections are within the tolerances specified for diameter and wall thickness. he removal of such imperfections is not required. (Quality SAE J54) If required, see SAE Standard J54 for a complete list of dimensions. P tapered Pipe hreads meet the requirement of ASE/ASI.I.0.. All Flared tube fittings, 3 piece tube assembly, can be used with metric tube by using metric sleeve, instead of sleeve. Every dimension, table shows which metric sleeve should be used in every size. Assembly Instructions. Cut the tube to the proper length.. Slide the nut and sleeve on to the tube. (See Fig.) 3. Form the flare with a special flaring tool to dimension according to SAE S. J533. (see page 3) 4. Screw the nut on the body until finger tight. 5. From this position, tighten the nut with a wrench " turn in order to make a leakproof metal to metal connection. Figure. UE U ubing ata for Flared hree-piece ube Assembly SEEVE In order to assure maximum fitting reliability and performance, great care should be given when selecting the tube for each application. ubing should be according to standard AS-9, A.I.S.I. 3 or 304 fully annealed, seamless and drawn, suitable for bending and flaring. ube Handling Scratches on the tube might cause leaks. herefore, good handling of the tube can reduce the possibility of leaks.. ubes must not be dragged on the floor.. ubes must not be dragged out of a tubing rack, especially in cases of large O tubes. Copper ubing - If copper tubing from a roll is used, ensure that end of the tube is held and the roll is moved away with the tubing lying on a flat surface. ube Cutting here are two ways to cut tubes:. ube cutter. Hacksaw ube Cutter o attain a leakfree connection, the tubing must be cut squarely. A good quality tube cutter with the appropriate blade for the tubing material is recommended. o not try to reduce the time of cutting by taking deep cuts with each turn of the cutter. he end of the tube must be deburred to avoid damage to the fitting and to ensure that the tube reaches the bottom of the fitting. Hacksaw Cutting In order to cut the tube with a hacksaw and to attain square ends, the tube must be cut with guide blocks. his method of cutting requires deburring of the tube ends. arning o not hold the tube in a vise in the place where it will be inserted into the fitting. he vise will leave a mark on the tube that may cause leaks and might cause ovality.

Smoothly breaking the inside corner before single flaring ferrous, and some non-ferrous tubing is normally required to eliminate the cutoff burr which might otherwise create leakage paths across a substantial portion of the flare. Smoothly breaking the outside corner prior to single flaring, or both outside and inside corners prior to double flaring, shall be permissible on any tube material to minimize splitting. able : Allowable orking Pressure Ratings (Capable of 4 to min. burst) om.
