Within the most established certification systems for green buildings (LEED, BREEAM, DGNB) rating points are given for compliance with the most important demands for sustainable architecture. The energy needed to melt down scrap material is only a fraction of that needed to extract metal from concentrates. 7 All products made of KME Ecological Copper can be used in exactly the same way as known so far from other corresponding KME copper products. Recycled copper has the same physical-chemical and technological properties as the primary material. Its uses are not limited, its value does not decrease and it does not have to undergo any treatment before being reused. Facade systems of any design, sheets or strips for roof cladding and all elements for roof drainage systems offer exactly the same quality and workability. As before, all systems and design elements are also suitable for outdoor and indoor applications. Exactly like all other KME copper products and without any compromise, KME Ecological Copper products will withstand decades of abuse from extreme weather of any kind. And the best thing is that the material will get even stronger due to the common protective surface oxidation on copper. The material is absolutely corrosion-resistant and will survive in the harshest environments, from coastal regions to heavy industrial areas. The natural weathering of copper goes along with a change of colour. This is exactly the same with newly produced copper as with recycled material. Conforming to an accredited environmental product declaration under ISO 14025, the premium brand copper products TECU Classic, TECU Oxid and TECU Patina and the alloy surfaces TECU Gold and TECU Bronze carry the label of the IBU, the Institute of Building and Environment. The production parameters taken into account for this accreditation include the use of primary energy, greenhouse gas and ozone-depletion potential, as well as wash-off rates caused by rainwater during the normal life of the product.
