8 Fume Extraction Equipment FES-200 & FES-200 W3 Optimum Fume Protection Optimum protection Over the past few decades gas metal arc welding (GMAW) has become the chief joining process in nearly all industrial manufacturing fields. Due to the often tight quarters where welding tasks are performed, welders must share air with the welding process. This creates air quality hazards for the welder, as not only are vapors produced from unclean work-piece surfaces, there are also metal oxides contained in welding fumes. During the welding process floating particles and ultra-fine micro particles contaminate the air the welder breathes as well as the air available to the entire area. To address and minimize these issues, trade associations and safety associations from all over the world have recommended that the removal of these fumes begin at the origin of the weld. This is only achievable with a torch that possesses fume extraction directly at the arc. As you can see the below, the difference in air quality with and without fume extraction makes an incredible difference. The Difference MIG/MAG-torch without fume extraction xfume fume extraction torch Welding fumes captured Right where they form! These extraction-integrated torches have a clear advantage due to the fact that extraction takes place directly at the arc. Thus, the welder can continue to weld normally without needing to take constant breaks to adjust the exhaust hood. 8

9 FES-200 and xfume The ideal system The high-vacuum extraction units FES-200 and FES-200 W3 with the xfume torches constitute the perfect system to extract welding fumes most effectively. Hence, the welder and his environment are best protected, and the most productive work enabled. Measurement of the extraction efficiency In a measurement of the extraction efficiency of the FES-200 in combination with the extraction torch from different manufacturers against DIN test standards 1 resulted in welding fume particle extraction from 330 amps and up to 95%. The xfume from ABICOR BINZEL achieved the best results. W3 certification The FES-200 W3 was developed specifically to meet the demands of chrome and nickel material joining, and is certified by the Institute of Work Safety with the W3 license for all welding applications or related procedures with emissions suitable to KMR /1.2 materials 2. Thus, this device enables the filtering of the exhaust, and work to be conducted without these otherwise harmful effects. 15 FUME EXTRACTION SYSTEM FEC. weld fume extraction with cyclone technolgy! 15

16 Mobile, flexible, efficient Clean solutions for tough industrial use. Fume extraction system FEC New cyclone technology for a longer service life. Harmful welding gases are created during welding. The new FEC (Fume Extraction Cyclone) weld fume extractor with inno vative cyclone technology is the ideal system supplement for ABICOR BINZEL fume extraction torches such as the xfume. It combines the highest suction output and intelligent, energy-efficient functions with simple handling. Mobile high vacuum extraction system. The FEC works with the highly efficient cyclone technology. This guides the extracted air through the filter container in an optimized flow pattern. Particles contained in the air are pressed against the container wall through the centrifugal force, separating them upstream from the filter and depositing them in the FEC s dust collecting drawer to reduce filter cleaning. The filter remains efficient for longer periods, and requires less cleaning. As a mobile extractor the FEC is considerably more flexible and efficient than stationary, central or hall extractors. It extracts fumes that are created during welding with a high vacuum of 19,000 Pa, a market-leading suction output. Thanks to its low weight, stable base, secure stand, and the robust rollers with solid rubber tires, the FEC is particularly suitable for everyday industrial use. The new FEC can be transported comfortably and quickly wherever needed. Quick and easy filter cleaning function. The new filter cleaning concept with an LED display makes the FEC particularly efficient. Instead of expensive disposable filters, a long-life filter is used that can be cleaned quickly and simply with a rotating cleaning lance operated by compressed air. The lance only has to be moved up and down a few times in the housing to remove the weld fume particles from the filter surface. These then fall down into the dust collecting drawer and can be disposed of as domestic waste. Integrated Start- Stop System for quiet operation. The FEC extractor can be connected to all standard air- or water-cooled fume extraction torches. It is coupled directly to the welding process via a standard integrated measuring shunt which cradles the work clamp cable and provides an automatic startstop function. When the user starts the welding process, extraction starts automatically. This reduces noise emission, saves energy, and lowers electricity costs. 16
