2 Our products and production capabilities Sheet and plate Sheets and plates in thicknesses of 0.1 to.9 in ( to 100 mm) with a maximum length of 47 in (1,000 mm) are hot rolled on a four-high mill, before finishing steps such as annealing, shot blasting, pickling, grinding and cutting take place. Furthermore, operates a Sendzimir reversing mill that can process hot-rolled sheet to individual coldrolled sheets in widths of up to 98.4 in (,500 mm). Strip Strip is cold rolled on fourhigh and Sendzimir mills. Foil can be rolled down to a thickness of in (0.05 mm) on a special 0-high mill. Annealing, levelling and cutting equipment is available for finishing operations to meet cus tomer specifications. Forgings 45 MN forging press uses two manipulators and receives its feedstock from certified heating and reheating furnaces. Following precisely specified procedures, bars, billets and other semi-finished products are produced. Rods, bars, billets and shapes For the production of forged bars in nickel with a diameter of more than 4.7 in (10 mm) and semi-finished products, state-of-the-art turning lathes and peeling machines are available. The production of rolled and forged bars with a diameter of less than 4.7 in (10 mm) is performed with modern peeling and grinding machines. A 60-tonne drawing bench is available for the manufacture of cold-drawn precision bars. Our U.S. bar products are rolled on a Birdsboro rolling mill capable of accepting ingot and/or billet up to 16 inches in diameter. It has the capability to produce 1.5,,, 4, and 5 inch standard round cornered squares (RCS), a variety of special sections and narrow plates up to 17 inches wide. Alternatively, the hot rolling of round bar, flat bar, and other custom- designed profiles is performed on both our 10 inch and 14 inch rolling mills. In addition to rolling, USA bar finishing plants are equipped with a cold drawing bench, centerless grinding units, straightening equipment, heat treatment furnaces, pickling, shot blasting, and cutting units in order to meet customer needs. Wire and welding consumables A broad portfolio of wires completes offering: produces wire in fine and ultra-fine gauges down to a diameter of in (0.1 mm), heavy gauge and section wire as well as welding wire. Main industries we serve Aerospace Automotive Chemical process industry Electronics and electrical engineering Medical engineering Oil and gas Power production Environmental industry

Main industries we serve Aerospace Automotive Chemical process industry E lectronics and electrical e ngineering Medical engineering Oil and gas Power production Environmental industry 1 Oil and gas production Supply and control lines on the depths of the seafloor: whether it s water millions of years old, sulfurous sediments or, of course, oil our materials ensure their reliable and eco-friendly extraction. 11 Household appliances In toasters, ceramic hobs, hairdryers and wherever the going gets hot: protective oxide layers on filaments made from our alloys ensure trouble-free operation throughout a long service life Ship engines Modern diesel exhaust valves can measure up to two metres high, and they are exposed to ever higher temperatures as engine outputs increase. VDM materials defy heat and heavy oil thanks to their corrosion resistance. 1 Spark plugs and glow plugs No combustion engine can run without a spark plug or a glow plug or without wires like those from VDM. They provide reliable and efficient ignition in central electrodes and glow plugs. Refineries Distillation columns separate crude oil into various highgrade products. Alloys from protect tanks and piping systems from the highly aggressive mixtures at temperatures up to 400 C. 1 Engines and exhaust systems Turbo chargers make engines lighter and more fuel-efficient but also much hotter. With our high-temperature alloys we support more eco-friendly vehicle construction. 4 Chemical process industry (CPI) Packaging, cable sheathing and varnishes are often based on acrylic and acetic acid. Zirconium tanks and piping systems are protected against these aggressive substances by means of a self-passivating oxide layer. 14 Piezo electric injectors Piezo electric injectors in diesel engines allow faster and more precise timing control. Made from our materials, they reduce fuel consumption while maintaining the level of engine performance C power plants 700 C and extremely high pressures up to 50 bar: only high-performance alloys like ours can en d uring l y resis t such a continuous inferno in power plants; and strongly boost their overall efficiency as they do so. 15 Catalytic converters Catalytic converters made f ro m e x t re m e l y t h i n f o i l s : short warm-up phases for immediate function, low exhaust backpressure for full engine performance and our high-temperature alloys for a long service life. 6 Flue gas desulfurization The scrubber section in flue gas desulfurizing plants: temperature fluctuations, acids, salty dust. We create materials to withstand it all. We ve been cleaning the air that way for more than 0 years now Tank trucks Acids and bases, often at high temperatures: the transportation of these products requires tanks with the highest possible corrosion resistance. We supply the materials it takes. 7 Seawater desalination In many of the world s regions the sea is the only source of drinking water: alloys from ensure the corrosion resistance r equired in seawater d esalination plants. 17 Aircraft Extremely strong and as light as possible: with our materials, flying becomes safer, more eco-friendly and more efficient. 8 Solar thermal power Sunlight heats the carrier fluid in absorber tubes to as high as 400 C. Here VDM materials protect the vacuum between the glass tube and the metal pipe thanks to their precisely tailored expansion behaviour. 18 Electric locomotives Overhead lines carrying 15,000 Volt: too much for the starting phase. Starting resistors from VDM alloys reduce the charge and make for a gentle start to your journey. 9 Burners in gas heating systems Modern gas heating systems generate lots of heat from very little gas. Our high-temperature resistant alloys ensure prime efficiency over a long service life. 19 Overhead power lines A s t h e c h a rg e i n c re a s e s, high-voltage cables heat up and can begin to sag badly. But not when they are made from our materials: they transport current safely and even improve the line efficiency. 10 Energy-saving fluorescent lamps E n e rg y - s a v i n g l a m p s a r e eco-friendly as long as they remain sealed. When heated, our materials expand at exactly the same rate as the ceramic bulb socket. So current but no air reaches the noble gas. 0 Geothermal energy The deeper, the hotter and often also the saltier: the challenges in sourcing geothermal energy are extreme. Tubes made from our corrosion resistant nickel alloys bring this energy to the surface safely and continuously.
