2 Sample Preparation Machines, accessories and consumables The autofluxer TM range The well-known and established autofluxer classic now includes new features - continously moving crucible - start-counter - cooling delay The autofluxer classic is still the easy-to-operate fusion machine, with a small footprint and a very low gas consumption. Using an oxygen-enriched flame it will easily work with high temperature. The innovative and new autofluxer plus shows greater flexibility, as 10 programmes can be used to store different settings for individual applications. Thermo-couples below each crucible monitor the actual temperature of each station to enable the creation of tailored programmes. We offer all necessary Platinum ware, which is compatible to the Schoeps system. On request, moulds and crucibles are available in DPH quality, for a longer use of the Platinum ware. All Borates are available as pure Borates or in a variety of different mixtures - please ask for further details or for your custommix.

3 HK - sample preparation for metals & powders Disk grinders are available in two types: HK200-series desktop grinding machines PE-presses: Our presses are available in manual and electro-hydraulic versions. We recommend the pressing dies from Chemplex. HK350 floor-standing unit with built-in exhaust For both, we offer several sample holders, which can be customised on request. For cast iron, a pendulum grinder using a stone is recommended. The HK150 is available as desktop (HK150) or as a stand-alone unit incl. exhaust (HK150exs). A magnetic sample holder is also available as an additional option. Moulds: For casting your routine samples, we offer a wide range of different moulds e.g. for pig iron, cast iron and non-ferrous metals - please ask for details. The new HK81F is the next generation of our milling machine HK80F. It now contains a Siemens PLC enabling faster milling and more security features. The small swing grinder HK40 is available with different types of vessels (including tungsten carbide). Our database can search for products containing up to eight selected elements or compounds simultaneously in concentrations from ppm to percentage levels. In our purpose-built facilities in Wesel, Germany, we carry in stock a range of more than 2000 different materials and can fulfil many customer orders with same day supply. In addition to independent advice to help customers select the most appropriate reference material for calibration, control or setting-up, we can advise on correct sample preparation for metals or mineral based materials. Breitländer specialises in the production of XRF-glass-monitor samples, and supply a comprehensive range of sample preparation machines and consumables. Many of the analytical methods, which cover the food, environment, industrial, clinical and pharmaceutical sectors, are accredited to ISO/IEC (Requirements for the competency of testing and calibration laboratories). LGC's Research and Technology Division is accredited to ISO Guide 34 (General Requirements for the competence of reference materials producers) for the production of reference materials. LGC offers a range of chemical and bio-analytical laboratory services across a variety of industries including: food and agriculture, environment, life sciences, chemicals and forensic science. LGC also plays a pivotal role in a number of programmes with both government and industry to improve analytical standards and laboratory performance. This catalogue The analytical data in our catalogues are given in mass percent, unless another unit is indicated (ppm, µg/g, mg/kg). These should be considered as typical or pilot values; the actual values are to be found in the certificate supplied with the sample. Values in brackets ( ) are not certified and are listed for information only. Reference materials are often only be produced in small batches to ensure homogeneity, and follow up melts will normally differ both in composition and dimensions. For exact composition of a product, or more information on manufacture, material property, methods, uncertainties etc prior to selection, please contact us. The selection and use of the correct CRM is crucial, and this catalogue aims to assist in the identification of the most appropriate materials. The properties of the materials are given whenever available - essential particularly for solid metals, where the analytical techniques are often structure and surface sensitive. The solid metal samples are therefore marked "wrought, "cast and "chill cast, the latter meaning rapid solidification, generally achieved by casting on a copper block. Aluminium samples in cylindrical form are usually extruded; the flat "mushroom forms are mould cast. New materials can become available and in some cases we can have material custom made. We are in close contact with specialised institutes and companies producing reference materials, as well as with the instrument producers.

5 Choice of reference materials Use of appropriate reference materials is fundamental to the effectiveness of your quality assurance programme. With increasing implementation of quality assurance programmes and laboratory accreditation, growing emphasis is put on use of CRMs whenever available. It is important to ensure that the metrological status of a reference material (as described below) meets your needs, and that their properties match those of your routine samples as closely as possible. They should have similar structure and be prepared in the same way. Calibration should be based on these matrix compatible materials, following the instrument manufacturer s recommended calibration procedures. Analytical results carry uncertainties due to random and systematic errors, but the measured value obtained from a CRM or RM should be within acceptable tolerance for the method used. Terminology Reference materials, CRMs and RMs, have been defined by ISO REMCO (ISOCommittee on Reference Materials). CERTIFIED REFERENCE MATERIAL (CRM): A reference material characterized by a metrologically valid procedure for one or more specified properties, accompanied by a certificate that states the value of the specified property, its associated uncertainty, and a statement of metrological traceability. REFERENCE MATERIAL (RM): Material, sufficiently homogeneous and stable with respect to one or more specified properties, which has been established to be fit for its intended use in a measurement process SETTING-UP SAMPLES (SUS): Materials of minimum inhomogeneity intended to be used for monitoring or adjustment of the analytical signal of instruments. These materials are given assigned values during calibration with CRMs or RMs, and are supplied with guide values, rather than certified values. Such standards are also referred to as "recalibration samples, "drift control samples or "monitor samples. CHART CONTROL SAMPLES are selected RM-materials with a composition normally corresponding to common alloy grades. These samples are sufficiently well analysed for their intended use of keeping spectrometers within statistical control and are used for quality assurance, to check for calibration and recalibration. Ordering and Payment Orders may be placed by mail, telephone, fax or . All orders for controlled substances must be sent by post, including the orignial import or possession permit. All purchase orders should indicate the number of units required, catalogue numbers and descriptions of the materials together with a purchase number. Adresses for delivery and for invoicing should also be indicated. All prices quoted are in Euro. The prices stated are subject without freight charges and VAT. Unless otherwise specified or agreed, the goods will be send on a EXW (Ex Works) basis (INCOTERMS 2000). All purchase orders within Germany will be delivered without freight charges. 62 Moulds for Iron and Non-Ferrous Metal Samples Casting of your own samples for spectrometric analysis requires different moulds, depending on alloy type and further handling. There are different moulds that have been tested under practical working conditions. Our product range comprises one special mould for cast iron, a modification for pig iron samples releasing robot compatible samples and a number of various classical copper moulds for different metals. Special Mould for Grey and Nodular Cast Iron BR 150 Mould with 45º casting angle in combined steel/copper construction Mould form from steel, casting on copper block ensures unidirectional chill cast solidification on the analytical side of the sample only Spectro sample and pins for analysis of C + S simultaneously from same sample cast Pin samples of about 0.4 g each to be broken off easily and ready for analysis Most simple mounting for tight joining by putting mould form on copper block, no mechanism, no moving parts, self locking Copper block designed as flat surface block, enabling easy resurfacing and thus giving extended life time of mould Standard size of sample: Ø x 5 mm Special Mould for Pig Iron BR 150/RE This special mould, intended for casting pig iron samples directly after the blast furnace, is made completely from copper. Pig iron coming from the blast furnace is hotter than regular cast iron, this mould enables rapid cooling for white structure and avoids semi-welding of sample at the regular steel mould form. The big handle is support for the casting ladle and the robust construction is designed to be fixed on a solid steel beam for protection in rough working environment. The sample dimension is: 34 mm diameter with side wall 10 mm high for robot grip tongs.
