3 Introduction The SSM is a patented design that provides a hand held, automated method for detection of soluble salts. The Model RPCT was performance tested and approved as an alternative method of taking conductivity measurements by the United States Navy. Listed in Standard Item FY-10 The US Department of Transportation is in the process of approving the SSM for use. 3

8 Process Steps 1. Attach meter to surface 2. Inject deionized water into measurement chamber with one press of the dose bottle 3. Meter automatically agitates solution (~ 45 seconds) 4. Meter automatically takes reading Displays reading on LCD screen Stores values electronically 5. Wipe remaining water from surface after removing SSM 6. 23 Laboratory Test Method 50 test areas were evaluated for 3 different doping concentrations. 10 doped tests were run on each panel. A total of 5 panels were used for each concentration. The center of each identified patch area was doped with 50 µl of solution. The doped panels were allowed to dry in the laboratory at ambient conditions overnight (~15 hours). After drying the panels were tested according to the Bresle Test Method. 23

27 Conclusion Independent testing demonstrates that both methods return equivalent results. The mean measured values are almost identical. The only discernable difference between the two methods is that the SSM has much lower variability in measurements. The variance in SSM measured values is significantly less than those measured with the Bresle patch. 27
