HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION EMERGENCY OVERVIEW Black powder. Inhaling dust may irritate the upper respiratory tract, and may lead to metal fume fever, a flu-like condition. Long term exposure by inhaling or swallowing can affect the central nervous system or kidneys. Will not burn in a fire but may increase the intensity of a fire involving other materials. 2 CAUTION! Breathing dust may irritate the upper respiratory tract. Exposure to large quantities of dust or fume may cause metal fume fever. Repeated or prolonged inhalation of the dust or fumes may cause delayed injury to the central nervous system or kidneys. SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE Inhalation: There are no known studies or signs/symptoms for this material. However, salts of manganese and lithium may cause the following: Flu-like symptoms - fever, chills, nausea and vomiting, muscular aches, and weakness; coughing, sneezing, bronchitis - can result from breathing high concentrations of dust or fume. Chronic exposure by breathing low levels of dust or fume over a long time can result in manganism, a disease of the central nervous system similar to parkinsonism. Prolonged or repeated inhalation of lithium compounds can cause central nervous system or kidney damage. Eye Contact: Non-irritant Skin Contact: Non-irritant Ingestion: Similar to those listed for inhalation MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE Eye, skin, respiratory, or kidney diseases or disorders would be aggravated by repeated or prolonged exposure to the dust or fume from this chemical. Iron deficiency may increase susceptibility to manganese poisoning. FIRST AID MEASURES Inhalation: Remove from area to fresh air. Seek medical attention if respiratory irritation develops or if breathing becomes difficult. Eye contact: Rinse eyes with water. Remove any contact lenses, and continue flushing with plenty of water for several minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or persists

3 Skin Contact: Wash affected areas with plenty of water, and soap if available, for several minutes. Seek medical attention if irritation develops or persists. Ingestion: Give 3-4 glasses of water, but DO NOT induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, give fluids again. Get medical attention to determine whether vomiting or evacuation of stomach is necessary. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious or convulsing person. NOTE TO PHYSICIAN Chemical of exposure is lithium manganese oxide. Acute exposure can result in metal fume fever. Chronic exposure to dust can lead to manganism, a disease of the central nervous system, characterized by psychic and neurological disorders. Overexposure to lithium compounds can cause kidney damage. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Flash Point and Method...N/A GENERAL HAZARD This product is not flammable, but may increase the intensity of a fire involving other materials, and may release toxic manganese and lithium oxides. EXTINGUISHING MEDIA Use suitable media for the material that is burning. SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS Move containers from area if it can be done without risk. FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT Wear NIOSH approved, positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective gear. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Wear appropriate protective equipment (See Section 8). ON LAND Shovel up material and place in suitable containers for later disposal

TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION 90 Day Inhalation Study...Three groups of female and male rates were exposed to 1, 4, or 16 mg/m3 for 6 hours/day, five days/week over a 90-day exposure period. The Mass Median Aerodynamic Diameters were microns. No exposure-related deaths or signs of toxicity were observed during the study. Increases in certain cell type counts were sometimes statistically significant and are considered biologically relevant. These findings were consistent with, and secondary to, microscopic observations of chronic inflammation in the lung and larynx. This study established a No Observed Effect Level (NOEL) of 1 mg/m3, and a No Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) of 4 mg/m3 which was based on transient clinical and diagnostic pathology findings at necropsy. These findings reflected a normal physiological response to pulmonary particulate exposure which cleared at necropsy of animals that had been provided a 60-day recovery period. Dermal LD50 (rabbit)...>2,000 mg/kg. A limit test was performed on 10 rabbits at a dose level of 2 g/kg; no animal died. Erythema (Grade 1 or 2), but not edema, was noted in all animals. Primary dermal irritation (rabbit)...non-irritant. A Primary Irritation Index of 0 was determined after dosing 6 animals with 0.5 grams of the test substance for - 5 -
