1 Micheldorf / Austria July 2013 EMO-Extrusion Molding GmbH at the K 2013 Flat-Sheet-Dies up to 9 m width and high-tech Coatings for wear and corrosion protection The Austrian EMO Extrusion Molding GmbH, manufacturer of flat dies for plates and the film extrusion has expanded its processing capacities in the uppermost size range. Film widths up to 9 meters are the current state of possibilities. Not new, but decisively expanded, is the range of coatings for corrosion and wear protection. In order to introduce these comprehensive competencies better to the specific visitors, Messrs. EMO on K 2013 have relocated their stand to Hall 2 / Booth G 09 and extended the technology presentation. EMO Extrusion Molding GmbH in Micheldorf / Upper Austria including the precursor organizations stands for 50 years of experience in extrusion tooling. Since 2002 EMO is part of the Haidlmair toolmaking group. Since the integration in the Haidlmair group the EMO tool and die making capacities have been expanded significantly. This capacity expansion strengthened two product sectors: firstly, the product range for 3 m nozzles for single-or multi-layer films and plates, on the other hand the top size range for construction and landfill films in the width range of 7 to 9. As a testimonial for the respective EMO capabilities the records show deliveries of 4 nozzles for 7.5 meter films including automated gap adjustments, with a total weight of each 15 tons, within the last 24 months. Product width adjustment by "Deckling" systems One strong focus of the EMO trade fair presentation is on film dies with integrated product width adjustment, the so-called "deckling systems," a. (Fig. 1a + b) As an example for that technology there

2 will be one die with automatic thickness control and internal deckling through a customized profile slider bar in the flow channel on display. Wear and corrosion protection Coatings Within the last three years EMO has developed new options for the corrosion and wear protection of nozzle channel and lip areas. Through intensive collaboration with university institutes and research centres considerable progress could be achieved. As a side effect and additional improvement of the coating technology, both the operating stability could be increased, and the deposits of degraded material in the flow channels reduced. EMO offers a whole range of coatings. The basics are nozzle components made of steel qualities and , which are coated, depending on the conditions of use in whole or only on the flow channel surfaces. The basic level of coating is hard chrome, which provides good protection against corrosion, but requires high repair efforts. Twice as hard and therefore a good wear protection is the as well corrosion-resistant chromium nitride. (Fig. 2) Tungsten carbide offers an even greater wear protection, a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating is extremely acid-resistant and extremely smooth. The latter feature has an impact on the flow characteristics of the plastic melt: the common wall sticking changes to wall sliding with specific plastics, thus providing additional opportunities in the process. A high acid resistance, which is required for the processing of plastic materials with halogen-containing additives, can be achieved through the combination of chromium steel with a Hastelloy-coating, an almost iron-free Ni-Cr- Mo alloy. Such nozzles up to a product width of two meters manufactured by EMO have proven their qualities in production applications successfully. Multi-layer Co-extrusion Adapter The EMO competencies include not only the development and construction of single and multi-layer flat nozzles, but also the production of multi-layer co-extrusion adapters for up to 9 layers in combination with mono nozzles. This knowledge was the basis for the specialization in extrusion dies for sheets and plates. The product range includes monoand multilayer dies, co-extrusion adapters (up to 9 layers), as well as peripherals for extrusion lines such as screen changers, cross cutting devices, calibration for XPS boards to complete systems for PVC structural foam panels. The dimensions of the flat sheet dies have grown over the years. Current state are extrusion nozzles with a products width of 8 meters. EMO has 28 employees, generating EUR 3.8 million (2012).
