Complete information concerning the part and the application is necessary to make the proper selection. A variety of factors dictate which bowl size and type is best for your application. Factors such as part size and configuration, part abrasiveness, condition of the part when handled, feed rate and direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) are just a few of the factors which affect bowl selection. Because there is such a wide selection of Syntron bowls to use with the EB-A drive, FMC Technologies analyzes your specific part and recommends the appropriate bowl for optimum feed rate and positioning. On the following page is a breakdown of our bowl nomenclature, with each number and letter representing a specific feature or dimension. 2 Syntron Parts Feeder Bowls The table below shows how our Syntron Parts Handling Bowl models are designated. The letters and numbers in the nomenclature represent a specific feature, dimension or option Bowl Identification Guide Example: 30AC20-2 This designates a 30-inch aluminum bowl with clockwise feed direction and 1-1/4-inch wide dual tracks. 30 Bowl Diameter in Inches A Bowl Material A Cast Aluminum Cascade S Fabricated Stainless Steel Cascade SW Fabricated Stainless Steel, Straight Wall or Outside Track Style (with OT Destination) C Bowl Feed Direction C is Clockwise (Absence of C denotes counter clockwise) 20 Track Width in 1/16-inch 20/16 = 1-1/4 inches 2 Number of Tracks 2 = Double tracks (Absence of code number denotes single track) S Sloped Track Last 90 degrees of track is angled 30 degrees toward bowl center (fabricated cascade bowls). 3 Syntron vibratory parts feeders, cont d. Syntron Outside Track Bowls The Outside Track (O.T.) Bowl is most commonly recognized for use in applications requiring moderate-to-high feed rates, multiple lines of feed, or where intricate tooling is required to properly orient the part. FMC Technologies craftsmen create an outside track bowl by taking a basic stainless steel bowl core and adding an outside track and return pan. The outside track portion houses all of the specialized tooling needed to bring the part to its desired orientation. Parts that are incorrectly positioned fall from the track into the return pan for re-circulation. Correctly oriented parts advance to the discharge. Syntron outside track bowls are ideal for applications requiring intricate tooling to orient parts. Because every application is unique, an appropriate bowl diameter, tooling technique and track design will be selected to obtain your desired feed rate and orientation. Versatile Pitch Designs FMC Technologies manufactures the O.T. Bowl with two different inside track pitches; a standard track pitch as well as a low track pitch (pitch refers to the vertical distance between part tracks on the inside of the bowl). Most applications use our standard track pitch, however there are applications where a low pitch is beneficial. The pitch is contingent upon the size, shape, weight and general condition of the part, along with its profile. Parts that require a low bowl stroke to obtain orientation generally favor a low-pitch design. Parts that tend to coast backward when being fed, or parts with minimal contact surface are also examples. Special pitches can be provided if required. Additional Features Constructed of 304 stainless steel, the Outside Track Bowl features a minimum-to-maximum discharge height that is generally predetermined based on the degree of tooling required to obtain the desired part orientation and feed rate. If your application requires high feed rates, O.T. Bowls can be designed with multiple lines of feed, with each line completely tooled to correctly orient the part. Once the lines are oriented, the parts converge back to one line of feed to produce extremely high feed rates. 5 Syntron vibratory parts feeders, cont d. Cascade Bowls The Cascade Bowl serves as an economical approach to parts handling applications. Although primarily used for applications having moderate feed rates and storage requirements, Cascade Bowls are less costly than more involved outside track designs. The Cascade differs from the O.T. Bowl because it has no internal "over and under" tracks, and has no outside tracking. Typically, Cascade Bowls are used in applications where parts could wedge between the tracks; parts such as large, rectangular parts or others having elongated shapes. The simple cascade design is ideal for systems integration or where low headroom and limited space exists. For most applications, we recommend that the Cascade Bowl be used with a parts feeder drive built to operate on rectified current (RC), providing 3600 vibrations per minute. Available in cast aluminum or fabricated stainless steel, each bowl type provides numerous features and benefits. If required, the stainless steel bowl can be easily fabricated to meet FDA specifications. Syntron cascade bowl. Cast Aluminum Economical, cast aluminum design. Syntron Pre-Tooled Bowl Designs With Standard Adjustable Features For Do-It-Yourself Part Orientation Universal Four Standard Orienting Features The stainless steel Universal Bowl comes complete with four adjustable tooling features. The wiper, track plate, back pressure plate and discharge section are all adjustable for use with parts which require basic orientation techniques. This standard bowl allows the user to complete his own orientation. This bowl is available in three sizes: 14, 18 and 24-inch diameters, all available in either clockwise or counterclockwise feed direction. The correct bowl for your application depends on the size and configuration of the parts to be handled. All Purpose Six Standard Orienting Features The All-Purpose Bowl offers even greater flexibility because it allows the customer to orient parts with the use of six adjustable orienting features.

The All-Purpose bowl is capable of handling different parts or multiple sizes of the same part with a few, minor adjustments.

8 All Purpose Six Standard Orienting Features The All-Purpose Bowl offers even greater flexibility because it allows the customer to orient parts with the use of six adjustable orienting features. These features come standard on an 18-inch cascade bowl that has a 1-1/4-inch wide spiral track. Because it is a standard, stock item, it is a cost-effective alternative to our custom-tooled bowls. The All-Purpose bowl is capable of handling different parts or multiple sizes of the same part with a few, minor adjustments. Parts up to 2 inches long, not exceeding 1-1/4-inches in width or diameter, can be easily handled. The size and configuration of the parts determine whether all or some of the six orienting devices are needed. This bowl is readily adaptable to the Model EB-132-A parts feeder drive, and is only available in counter-clockwise feed direction. Syntron All-Purpose bowl. Adjustable Back Pressure Baffle Will divert overfeed of parts into the bowl without jamming or mal-orienting the parts ahead in the discharge section. 1 1 /4-in Adjustable Track and Keeper Will hold orientation on cylindrical parts oriented with the longitudinal axis vertical and reject all other attitudes. By removing the keeper and notching a slide plate, orientation on cup-shaped parts can be obtained with open side up. 1 / 8 to 1 1 /4-in 1-in 1 1 /4-in Adjustable Step Riser Raising or lowering riser to tumble parts into preferred position.
