3 WE MAKE QUALITY OUT OF TRADITION... The history of the Mansfeld county in the heart of Germany is the history of the Germany copper industry. As early as 1199, two miners discovered the first copper deposit near the village of Hettstedt. The reddish-golden metal that can be used in so many ways made its mark upon this landscape and its people in the following centuries. Copper became the livelihood of uncounted generations. The experience gained in the treatment of this valuable metal still remains a valuable asset of the region and our company. When the Mansfelder Kupfer und Messing GmbH (MKM) was formed, it added an extra dimension to the Hettstedt copper mine, that of local smelting. In 1909 Hettstedt produced and shipped its first copper-semis, which included copper sheet and copper strip in coil. In the following years, the company was characterized by rapid technological developments and a permanent growth of its product portfolio. MKM quickly became one of the leading European producers of copper and copper alloy semi-products. Thanks to its modern technology it retains that position to this day. Since MKM's acquisition by Kazakhmys, one of the largest copper mining corporations in the world, the group can offer a unique degree of vertical integration: from the excavation of ores to the manufacturing of semi-products, everything is in one hand. This is unique in Europe and guarantees consistent quality; from selecting the raw materials through to the ready to be shipped semi-finished product. Therefore MKM can offer its stomers a new dimension of quality and serity of supply. Even though copper shale is not mined anymore, in Mansfeld county, the tradition lives through MKM. 03

5 WIDE VARIETY OF PRODUCTS AND APPLICATIONS Materials of Highest Quality The wide range of end uses for our products demands a high degree of precision in our product properties. We can meet any national or international standard as well as stomers own specific parameters; no matter what format (plates, sheets or circles) material (copper, brass, bronze, copper-nickel and nickel or other wrought alloys) or rolling technology (hot or cold rolled). Know-how in Production Technology Products can be supplied to suit a variety of needs, for example stamping or engraving pose no problem for MKM. Many years of experience in managing production processes enable us to safely handle plates of large dimensions. Our hot rolling mill can produce sheets and plates of up to 3600 mm width. With our high-performance precision sawing machines we can finish plates and sheets of up to 8000 mm length. Even the special demands of plates for molds and staves for continuous casting in the steel industry are met through specific cold rolling. Upon stomer request, plates can be supplied machined. Circles from plate and sheet can also be supplied in a wide variety of alloys and dimensions sawn, stamped or t. Applications without Limitations Sheets, plates, and circles from MKM are used as a base material for a multitude of applications and products. Many industries like electrics, electronics, metals, light engineering and sanitary appliances rely on products from Hettstedt. Typical applications are desalination and chemical engineering, bus bars for electricity distribution, heat exchangers, musical instruments, jewellery and art. In conclusion: MKM plates, sheets and circles serve a universal market. 05

Our quality management system has been certified by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance according to DIN EN 9001:2000. 15 Metallic physics Scanning electronic microscopy (BS - 300) The scanning electronic microscope makes it possible to directly map surfaces of solid objects that are impermeable to electrons by means of secondary or backscatter electrons, such as for mapping the surface of semi-finished goods (sheets, strips, tubes, wires, etc.) for investigating structures after appropriate preparations When the energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer was connected with the scanning electronic microscope, this expanded the areas of application around qualitative and quantitative analysis in the microscopic range for elements from the ordinal number 10. This investigation technique is required for: identifying the elements of inclusions in such things as semi-finished goods identifying the elements of modified object areas on the surface of semi-finished goods or in the semi-finished goods. X-ray radiation micro-analysis (SX-50) The micro-probe SX-50 is a product of the CAMECA company and is equipped with two inclined wavelength-dispersive spectrometers. Each of the spectrometers is equipped with four alternating crystals (TAP, PET, LTF, PC 2 OR PC 3). It is possible to detect elements from the ordinal number 4 this configuration. Furthermore, this probe is a computer-controeled and designed for completely automatic point analysis and digital screen evaluation. Some areas for application are: mircro-analysis / line scans layer testing on metals damage investigations High-tech laboratoies and in-line inspectation equipment, allow us to test according to stomers specifie standards, to evaluate with a CAQ-System and to supply multilingual certificates. 15
