8 Standox Warranty Painting Systems for Mercedes-Benz Pre-Mixing (continued): 80:20 for the most Matt surface, normally not on OEM surfaces ** *Dependant on individual vehicle as OEM finishes vary in gloss level Shake or stir Standox 2K Special Matt well in the can. Ensure both components are thoroughly mixed. Mixture must be re-stirred if left to stand for 30 minutes or longer. Hardener and thinner should be added directly before application. Mixing: 4:1 with Standox VOC Hardener and 10 % Standox VOC Thinner Slow 17-18s/DIN 4mm/20 C 41-45s/ISO 4mm/20 C Potlife 30 minutes Application: * Compliant mm at bar inlet pressure ** SATA HVLP 1.5 mm at 2.0 bar inlet pressure Apply in two coats with increased distance to the object min flash off 2nd coat should be applied after visual flash off when surface begins to turn patchy. Apply the first and second layer in 90 cross application, if possible min final flash off Drying: Drying time min. / C object temperature Air dry is not permitted. 9 Standox Warranty Painting Systems for Mercedes-Benz Important remarks (continued): Dust inclusions cannot be removed by polishing. Therefore maximum cleanliness should be obtained in the application process. Blending not possible ** Option: Depending on the color it is possible to cover Standohyd Basecoat with Standocryl VOC Clears baked and sanded. This gives more uniform result, especially on very dark colors. Care of the finish: Do not wash the car with a high-pressure or steam-jet cleaner. You can wash the car in an automatic car wash. Systems with soft brushes are preffered. Car washes with brushes do not necessarily have a negative impact on the paint surface or on the sensitivity to scratching. Do not use any paint cleaning compounds, sanding or polishing pastes/compounds, or even gloss preservers (wax) for paintwork care. They may damage the surface. If, by accident wax gets on the surface, remove it immediately with Standox Silicone Remover. Take care not to exert high pressure on the paint surface. Do not allow any resinous, greasy or oily substances to get on the paint surface, as these may leave traces. Tar spots can be removed with a commercial tar remover. Prepare the vehicle for the second colour shade. Apply second colour shade with Standohyd Basecoat. Standocryl 2K HS Clear or Standocryl VOC Platinum Clear or Standocryl VOC HighPro Clear or Standocryl VOC Premium Clear or Standocryl VOC Xtra Clear or Standocryl VOC Express Clear Dry clearcoat After drying the clearcoat must be sanded. Pre-sanding with P1500, wet, and final sanding with P2000, wet Apply Standocryl VOC Platinum Clear using Standox VOC Hardener Oven dry min / C panel temperature, followed by IR drying (short wave) for at least 12 min at 100% power Sand dust inclusions with 3M VP 2000 pads or 3M Trizact P3000 (see Polishing Process). Polish with a rotary polishing machine and the 3M wool pad. Apply a small amount of 3M Finesse-it Polish Extra Fine to the pad. Polish with a rotary polishing machine and the 3M polishing foam orange (for better cooling). Apply a small amount of 3M Perfect-it (TM) III Extra Fine Sanding Paste to the foam. See Polishing Process S13 Oil and residue should be cleaned off with 3M Finish Control Spray or degreaser in order to check if it is necessary to reapply polish. If the finish is still not satisfactory, the last two process steps may be repeated if necessary. To give a better protection on the cleaned area, further polishing with a small amount of 3M Perfect-it (TM) III Extra Fine Sanding Paste on the orange pad is recommended. Repaired and clearcoated panels are sanded with orbital sanding machine and P1000-P1500, edges and corners with P3000 handsanding. Blending area should be prepared with P3000 machine sanding. 26 Standox Quality Painting Systems for Mercedes-Benz Application: Blending-in / Polishing of Standocryl VOC Platinum Clear Pretreatment / Cleaning: Sand the total fade out area carefully with a dual action sander with 3M Trizact Fine Finishing Disc P3000 3M mm (optional for small areas with 75mm disc). Any small dirt inclusions should be removed using Trizact A5 Film Discs (32mm) or Mirka Abralon P4000 before the actual process begins. Painting: Mix Standocryl VOC Platinum Clear 3:1 with Standox VOC Hardener Spray the repair area with catalysed clear. Apply pure Standox 2K Smart Blend Plus and ensure a smooth transition into the overlapping area. Drying: Oven drying min / C panel temperature Processing after cooling down: Polishing: Important remarks: Depending on the finish requirements sand the total area with P3000 Trizact Fine Finishing Disc (3M 50076) 150mm on a dual action sander. Particular care should be taken in the fade out area. Polish with a polishing machine and the 3M polishing foam orange (for better cooling). Apply a small amount of 3M Perfect-it (TM) III Extra Fine Sanding Paste to the foam. Keep surface for priming with filler as small as possible. Pretreatment / Cleaning: Sand the repair area with P1000-P1200 and go over the whole panel with an ultra fine pad. For substrate preparation information see Standox Painting System S1. Painting: Option: First apply one spray pass of Standohyd Color Blend to repair and fade out area. Apply Standohyd Basecoat with reduced viscosity (18-22 s / DIN 4mm / 20 C) and reduced spray pressure (by bar) with several spray passes to repair area and even out pattern to achieve opacity. After each spray pass, blow dry with an air gun. Blend-in in repair area. 98 Standoflash UV-Füller U7100 Health and Safety: The UV-light-curing Standoflash UV Filler U7100 itself is in principle not considered to be unhealthy. However, when applying this primer surfacer, the same protective and safety measures are to be taken as for standard paint materials. Handling UV radiation sources, however, requires particular care. Dangers can only be avoided if a licensed UV drying equipment is used in the proper way.
