2 Hardfacing A high output (140%) rutile coated electrode with high chromium carbide content for abrasion resistant hardfacings on structural steel, cast steel, manganese steel components and equipment subject to wear caused by sand, gravel, ore, coal, cement or other hard abrasive materials. The deposit retains a high hardness up to 500 C. 3 Hardfacing : Feddur 70 has a recovery rate of 120% and produces a Cr Si Mo V which is martensitic, providing excellent impact and good edge holding qualities. 4 Hardfacing : basic graphite coated high performance electrode with a 160% deposit rate for welding extremely high wear resistance special carbide hardfacing on components which are subjected to severe abrasive were by sand, gravel, ore, coal, cement and slag. Suitable for hardfacings on pulverising plant equipment in contact with hot coal, coke, and slag thanks to high abrasion resistance at high temperatures. 5 Hardfacing Feddur 300 LH HRC 35 : Feddur 300LH is a basic coated electrode for hardfacing, cable drums, dragline chains, crane and tractor wheels, rollers, rolls and for rolling stress. The deposit is moderately hard unsusceptible to cracking, impact resistant, work hardens and can be multilayered, The MnCr deposit is machinable and can be heat treated. Can take mild abrasion, good under loading and good resistance to impact. 6 Hardfacing : Fedmill 60 is especially designed for the roughing up of Cane rollers. It is exceptionally suited for operations where the arc must be maintained while the crane juice coated roller is in motion. 7 Hardfacing : A heavy coated, high deposition alloy type of hardfacing electrode, designed for applying wear resistant metal to a wide range of components subject to abrasive wear by rock, stone, sand and ore. This electrode is also recommended for the sugar mill operations where roughing of rollers is required and also where a constant arc should be maintained on the rollers whilst in motion in cane juice. 13 Stainless steels A rutile coated stainless steel electrode with a deposit rate of 110%. Especially suited for welding austentic chrome-nickel steels of the 18/8 types: 301, 302, 304, 308, 321 & 347. 19 Aluminium and Alloys PROCEDURES Remove all foreign materials and surface oxides. Materials of 1/8 inch (3,25mm) or thicker should be pre-heated to 500 F (260 C) or more. Hold the electrode perpendicular to the work, (approx. 90 ) and maintain as short an arc with a fast travel speed. Fill craters and restrike on existing weld bead. Chip slag between beads and before quenching. For complete slag removal use wire brush and hot water solution of 10% sulphuric acid. Rinse completely clean with hot water. APPLICATIONS: MG 405 is used in repair of automotive parts, pipes, tanks, trailers, refrigeration equipment, aluminium casting and structural shapes. 20 Aluminium and Alloys APPLICATIONS: Repairing of automotive, truck and bus parts. Also for tanks, pipes, ladders, shelves, refrigeration equipment, foundry patterns and many other aluminium structures.repair of machining errors and build-up of missing sections of castings, extrusions, plates etc. Can also be used as a gas brazing alloy. PROCEDURES: Clean weld area. Parts 1/8 inch or heavier should be bevelled No preheat is necessary on thin gauges but faster, flatter, smoother welds are produced on heavier sections if they are preheated to approx. 400 F (205 C). Hold electrode vertically to work piece, maintain a short arc and fast travel speed. Use either stringer beads or weaving technique. Remove slag between passes. Restart arc on existing weld deposits. Allow part to cool slowly. Chip of all slag before quenching. For complete slag removal use a wire brush with a 10% sulphuric acid and hot water solution. Rinse with clean water. 21 Cast-irons Basic graphite coated stick electrode with pure nickel core wire for machinable cold welds on cast iron. For joint welds and build - up welds on cast iron and for joining cast iron to steel in all positions on oily and greasy surfaces. A variety of specific welding properties can be used depending on the type of welding current and electrode polatiry. With DC (negative) the welding speed is slow. With DC (positive) higher beads are formed. With AC the welding speed is increased and thermal input reduced. The golden rule for cold welding cast iron is: weld short beads (30-50mm) and immediately peen beads thoroughly in order to relieve stresses. 22 Cast-irons Basic graphite coated electrode with nickel- Iron core wire for welding spheroidal graphite cast irons and high phosphorus cast irons. Fedcast 3 is widely used to weld cast iron to mild steels without preheating and for applying buffer layers to components where chemical resistance or wear resistance is needed. 23 Cast-irons Basic graphite coated electrode which produces a strong, dense and tough non machinable deposit unless a preheat or two to three layers are applied. Most cast irons can be welded as the electrode coating permits the use of low welding currents and deposits are low in carbon. Some typical applications are for gray cast irons to mild steel and general difficult to reach crack repair. If preheat is not possible and machinable deposits are required then nickel base electrodes Fedcast 1, 3, and 31 can be used for the top layers. 24 Cast-irons Basic graphite coated stick electrode with nickel iron core wire (Bi - metal) for machinable cold welds on cast iron, spheroidal graphite iron and for joint welds with steel. The bimetal core wire permits deposition of the electrode along its entire length without the tendency to overheat that is associated with NiFe electrodes. With DC (negative) the thermal input is higher, penetration deeper, welds are flat. Ideal for welding ductile cast pipes in all positions. The work piece must be preheated to 400 C when welding with Fedcast S-32 M.I.G. wire. 25 Cast-irons APPLICATION Fedcast 6 is a special electrode for welding gray cast iron, cast steel and malleable cast iron. The weld metal deposit gives an excellent colour match with castings. WELDING This electrode has a smooth arc and an easy slag removal spatter-free flow and no under cutting. WELDING INSTRUCTIONS The welding area must be clean and free of oil and grease. Weld cold. Keep heat input as low as possible and weld short runs to keep work piece cold. Weld runs can be peened to reduce stresses in welding area. 26 Gouging Fedcon 53 is a special electrode for gouging and cutting duties on all metals, for weld edge preparation removing welded-on attachments, gouging grooves and hole piercing. Grooving duties can be carried out in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. The best results are obtained when the workpiece is slightly inclined (see sketch). For severing and cutting work, make saw-like movements with the electrode.
